Apparently one bidder claims that NYT management acted against their fiduciary interests of the stockholders selling for less $ to Red Sox John Henry. But that's not the big story...

“Someone in the Red Sox at one juncture told me there are two organizations they hate — the Yankees and the Patriots — and they didn’t want the Patriots to get the Globe,” Lynch said. “They certainly can influence the coverage a team has.”

Who here is surprised? If Kraft had any interest, it's clear his bid was doomed. Just like the city of Boston screwed him when he proposed to build his stadium in Boston. Remember how the 8-10 games a year would disrupt neighborhood "traffic"? Only to fall all over themselves a couple years later when they thought the Sox might build their stadium in their neighborhood.

More fuel to the fire over recent Globe coverage lambasting Pats ownership & head coach over He Who Shall Not Be Named.

It's mutual. My brother-in-law has worked on the field for every home game since 1990. He told me years ago that the Patriots organization is obsessed with the Red Sox and everything they do. Not surprising to me at all that they are jealous of one another. And that's what it is - pure jealousy.

John Henry and the Red Sox have always had an inferiority complex when it comes to the Pats. In the past they would alway try to manufacture headlines during the late fall to steal the spotlight from the Pats using their PR firms - WEEI and NESN. They even tried to steal some of the spotlight from the Pats when they won the Super Bowl in the 2003 season with a bunch of ads with "The Boston Red Sox congratulate the New England Patriots".

Now that Henry owns the Globe and the Pats constantly gaining popularity and the Red Sox interest being at its lowest in decades, who knows how Henry will manipulate the media for more Red Sox coverage and less Patriots coverage. He now controls one of the two radio stations (technically, not actually), one of the two local sports network, and one of the two local papers. If this was ten or fifteen years ago, he would basically control all of the media in town.

Henry can add another cash black hole to his portfolio after Liverpool.

good for him.

I'm still a Pats and Red Sox fan though.

That doesn't have to be mutually exclusive.

Pretty pathetic. Love how Kraft runs his team. The Patriots are as professional as it gets.

I just read this too. How pathetic, since I believe Kraft has a luxury box at Fenway. Im sure this "anger" comes mainly from Luccino

Here we go - the Henry-Globe era off to a goofy start. I wish another group had won the bidding. THe only positive output from Henry buying the team is the future "retirement" or firing of Shaughnessy.

I'm sure all the teams have a bit of envy of each other, but the Red Sox go the extra mile to steal the spotlight from everyone especially the Patriots.

For years, they used their relationship with WEEI to make them talk Red Sox all year long (the only sport that WEEI would talk all year long while the rest were confined mostly to their respective seasons). I remember about a decade ago, a typical week in November or December on WEEI would be Patriots talk Monday and Friday, a mix of Red Sox and Pats on Tuesday and Thursday, and all Red Sox on Wednesday. Once 98.5 came along and were far more Patriots heavy, WEEI was forced to lighten up on the Red Sox talk and talk more Patriots.

**** the Red Sox and that boring ass sport of baseball.

This is ridiculous and pathetic. C'mon you old fogies, put your big boy pants on and act like grown-ups!!

Why is everyone so sure that Shank, the CHB, will be fired by the new owner? Isn't the CHB a certified Sox bow tied bum kisser?

One owner is referred to as Mr. Kraft
The other is called Dr. Creepy
$70 million should take care of that....not

PS...who gets their football news from a newspaper. And Boston.com.......I have both Boston.com and ESPN in my no fly zone unless absolutely necessary.
I start with Reiss....then hit PatsFans message board in case Reiss missed something. Our guys do a nice job filtering the Pats news. Then, maybe a click on Florio for some gossipy trash. I do indulge in a Boston Herald.com glance every once in while because it reminds me of my days grabbing the afternoon NY Post for my subway ride uptown.

Shank is too ugly for a permanent TV gig....so I bet he becomes another media icon transformed into Sox shill.....Say hello Mr. Gammons
Dr. Creepy may reassign Shank to the Patriots parking lot so he can tail the players back to their off grid crash pads

So the Red Sox are going to outdo the Patriots by having thier own newspaper?

Perhaps they should look into releasing a Best of Red Sox series on VHS, post messages to its fans on My Space, and really corner the market on dying, irrelevent media outlets.

If Henry wants to sell more newspapers (which should now be his objective), he should increase coverate of the Patriots!!!!

The feeling goes both ways. In fact TomE Curran says the Patriots obsess over the % of media coverage Patriots vs Sox.
Oh and by the way the city of Boston also screwed us fans out of any opportunity to get a new Fenway Park. Sox ownership had every intention/desire to build a new ballpark in the city and had/has the right guy in place to do it in Larry Lucchino. Can you imagine a Camden Yards in Boston?? Oh my god it would be baseball heaven. Sadly we can only dream....Sox ownership found out pretty quickly that the pols were not going to play ball vis-à-vis city land, infrastructure, etc. Hence the refurbish of 100 yr old Fenway.
From where I sit the Patriots have pretty much gotten a free media ride in this town for well over a decade. Borgie the Plagiarist will take his shots but overall this organization has been treated like sports royalty around here by the media.

I'm guessing he wishes he never wrote the "papi is on ped's" article now.

Did not go down well at fenway.

Schaudenfraude *****

He should also be having second thoughts about
all of his columns dumping all over Henry for his Liverpool soccer involvement.

Huh?!? You do realize that the pols in Boston screwed over the Krafts and Patriots long before they screwed over Henry, Lucchino, and the Red Sox? Kraft tried to build his own version of Camden Yards in South Boston before Henry even bought the Red Sox and the residents and politicians blocked him. He ended up having to build a stadium with his own money in Foxboro instead.

Henry knew he was unlikely to get his own version of Camden Yards even before he bought the Red Sox. He knew there was no way he would be able to build a park in South Boston. I really can't feel bad for him on this. He also probably could have found another site, but decided that Fenway is a better location than the alternatives.

And every team is obsessed about their media coverage. We are talking about billion dollar brands. It is how they act that is difference. I don't like the way Kraft and Company control their brand either with some of their media packages. Many of them are not in the fans best interest and are to put the Pats in their best light (for example allowing very Patriots friendly Big O and Michael Holley interview Belichick every week, well until Big O left). I just think the Red Sox's strategy is to dominate the entire Boston sports media market and leave little room for everyone else.

No more ridiculous and pathetic than your response. John Henry is so obsessed with the way the media portrays the Red Sox that he once a couple of years ago made an unannounced visit to Felger and Mazz because they were piling on him and his Sox so much for their personnel decisions even though their main competitor pays money for exclusive access to him and Lucchino. Do you think Kraft would do that? Never.

The Red Sox are obsessed with being the most beloved team in town and their actions prove it.
