Put me in the Hernandez is overrated camp. Ballard is a true TE anyway who could easily make me forget Hernandez She is injury prone anyway.
Just for interests sake, I'd love to see you call Hernandez a woman to his face.

I am really not sure why you think Jake Ballard is some amazing tight end. He's basically your league average tight end with upside who just had his knee destroyed. Hernandez is light years beter, but he gets hurt a lot and struggles playing through injury.

Isn't the only injury Hernandez has had was when Edelman smashed into the side of his leg while he was blocking for him? There is one phrase that I get so annoyed reading on pats forums, and that is the phrase "Injury Prone." People throw that word around constantly, its become a joke now. Having someone crash into the side of your leg at full speed while you're engaged with a blocker is not being "injury prone" it is called being unlucky.

Technically no. But let's look at his "injury prone" seasons

2010 (Rookie Year)- Missed the final two games of the season as a precaution as the games were against the 4-10 Bills in Buffalo (the game that clinched the #1 seed) and the last regular season game against Miami.

2011- Sprained his MCL against the Chargers. Some people said he would miss 4-6 weeks. Only missed 2 games.

2012- Well we know what happened, no need to rehash it.

You want to know someone who was injury prone. Bob Sanders. Only played in more than 6 games twice in his 7 seasons and played a full season only 1 time. Which was his second season and if I recall correctly he was a healthy inactive the last two games of the regular season.

I take it you're confident that you'd survive suiting up for an NFL game, then?

Why stop at just 2 WR's in this draft. Why not make every pick a WR, and let them sort it out in camp Some of the idiocy shown by a few posters (and you know who they are) is embarrassing to us all. Embarrassing to them because of the erroneous information and down right stupid comments. Embarrassing for us, in that when we engage these tools, we give them what Clearly they have no interest in anything but inciting a response....and when you do.....they win.

I don't believe in using the "ignore feature", but a little common sense should be used, and if we simply don't respond to these posts, they will dry up and disappear into like the manure that they are. Read their posts. Have a good laugh. But don't respond. We only diminish ourselves when we do.

While I agree Hernandez is far better than Ballard, I think you undersell Ballard a bit here. He is a very good blocking TE, I would say almost as good as Gronk as a run blocker and above average for a pass blocker from a TE. He has pretty good hands, solid athleticism, pretty good route runner and very good at catching in traffic.

Assuming healthy Ballard is going to be on the field inside the 10 yard line every snap this season and wouldn't be surprised to see a ton of 3TE sets this year like we did in 2010 and 2011.

And I just remember that Giants game where he absolutely destroyed us. He's a very good role player who can be a #1 TE on other teams... we just happen to have 2 top 5 TEs so he's our #3.

All I gotta say is: that early contract extension is looking shakier by the day.

You can say that again in the Second Half of the Ravens game, Hernandez couldn't be found with a search warrant. I am off his bandwagon I don't think he's tough enough. I have high expectations for Mr. Ballard given his year off Aarron who?

Why did you like my post then? My post was to illustrate how the whole "injury prone" assessment of him is sort of over blown. Just like it is with Gronkowski, who played in every game his whole NFL career until he got injured in the Colts game.

And Hernandez's rookie season doesn't even count because if the Pats were in a position where they absolutely needed those last two games just to get a bye and weren't going against the dreadful Bills and the Dolphins who if it's late December and their in Foxboro pretty much pack it in.

If someone was to say Hernandez & Gronk will miss 2 games a year, albeit not the two same games but are completely healthy for the playoffs, who wouldn't take that?

Hernandez 2010 stats

First 8 games 34-436
Last 6 games 11-127

And 1 catch for 4 yards in the playoffs.

I think its pretty clear that while he managed to play there was a marked decline in his effectiveness. Or that he was seeing less snaps due to injury.

He took a YEAR off??? That's tough???

I guess I gave it a Like for the Bob Sanders part mostly. Hernandez isn't injury-prone as much as he is prone to doing something stupid after he takes a hit, anyway.
