Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

Mike Silver is saying that Welker to the Broncos is almost done.

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

you mean the one where Hernandez went down early and was supposedly a big part of the gameplan?

Yeah, the guy who we hitched our future to, who gets hurt every season. Yeah him.

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

Looks like it's a done deal. @mikesilver is saying Broncos are "nearly done." This ******* pill is going to be hard to swallow. Whatever the argument is over this guy, nobody can ever doubt his ******* dedication. He truly left it all on the field. One of the toughest football player I have ever watched.

Exactly. How many times have we drafted or signed a player only to have it not work out. Now we're just throwing the one consistent thing we had away.

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

Im gonna ****** puke...

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

It's not so much that he is leaving the gots me bummed out. Pretty sure the Patriots can maintain their historic offenses with those tight ends, is the fact he is going to freaking Denver...

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

Very happy for wes. Deserves it. Leave the lowballing pats

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

Was he or was he not a 'real #1 receiver'? The Patriots paid enough to keep him, and whether or not you feel like he could have got more elsewhere is irrelevant.

Here's a fun game: go look at all of the teams who have given WRs lavish contracts that paid them in the top 2-3 at their position, then report back on how many of those teams are even in playoff contention, let alone Super Bowl contention.

There's a reason why smart teams don't often pay WRs $12M+ per year. They certainly don't pay Wes Welker that amount.

I really doubt that Welker is getting anywhere near $12 mill a year with the Broncos, wouldn't doubt if it's half that. If they give him anywhere near $10 million, that pretty much guarantees that Thomas and Decker will be gone by the next year.

Con Man Krafty Bob!

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

Jeff Howe ?@jeffphowe

NFL source familiar w/ Welker/DEN talks tells @ronborges they have the framework of acceptable deal, but details still need to be worked out

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

No I don't necessarily want him but what people are failing to realize is that Welker makes a living in one area of the field.

An area of the field that's already extremely busy in New England.

Hernandez is a slot receiver for all intents and purposes. It sucks to lose Welker, but his production can be replaced.

Exactlly. I expect amendola and/ greg jennings to sign with thhe pats, so his production is replaceable. However, the balance of power in the afc went from baltimore to NE to denver in one month.

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

Well, I never expected Welker back so I'm at peace with this news.

I wish him the best of luck in Denver, except against the Pats. And I hope BB has some moves in the pipe because it's going to be tough sledding in his defense if he doesn't.

lol no not at all.

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

if this happens, welker can go to hell.

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

I'm really bummed out about this. I think Wes has always been the good little foot soldier and never squawked about getting a new contract while playing under his current contract. Pats tagged him last year....then wouldn't negotiate til late this year. Just never seemed like they showed the guy ANY respect at all. Which is going to make ALL future Pats players who are coming to within 1 year of the expiration of their current contracts....act out like Randy Moss and Ty "gotta feed the kids" Law and speak out in the media and create a circus. While I do think the Welk situation is a bit tough because he is getting older and has the previous ACL injury hanging over him....I WISH They had at least started negotiating with him and SHOWN him more respect for EVERYTHING that he had done here the past many years. At least TRY TO get something done EARLY on.....don't disrespect your best players and then throw the lowball at them like they are a piece of sh#t........ I expect him to be gone now....but will always remember #83.....one of the all time greats to ever put on a Patriots uniform.....Best of luck Wes!
I could be mistaken but didn't the Pats offer him 2 years for $16 million last year. I thought that I read that it was fully guaranteed (possibly in a Mike Reiss article). If so how is that bad $16 million is a decent among of guaranteed money. Also as no football contract is guaranteed the years should not have mattered.

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

Is this officially a done deal ? Seems like it's official from some of the posts I'm reading here, YET, I can't find any info saying it's done.

On a side not, I think the Pats have the 8th most available cap space (25 mill ?), I'm surprised they haven't picked up anyone yet. With needs at WR, DB, OT and Pass rush (oh hell, they need help everywhere), I guess they want to see how the FA market plays out. I wonder if this is the most $ they've had to play with in the FA era ?

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

I wanted him back and this is tough news but let's hope they're planning to use this money on defense, namely secondary help. I'd rather have holes at WR than on D. It will be interesting to see how we adapt to life without Welker, sure it won't be pretty at first but I think the offense will be fine eventually. Ahern and Gronk have to be more durable going forth that's for sure.

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker deal to Broncos nearly done

Jason La Canfora ?@JasonLaCanfora

While Broncos are pushing to sign Wes Welker, was told it still could go either way regarding a return to NE. Nothing definite yet

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker deal to Broncos nearly done

Greg A. Bedard ?@GregABedard

It ain't over til it's over.

Re: Schefter: Denver in serious talks with Wes

With Gronk and Hernadez we have 150-200 catches and +2000yds, mostly in the slot...chill out we will work out something good without Welker if that's the case.
Firs step get back Woodhead next year
