The generally accepted measuring timeframe to get a "true" appraisal is 3 years.

6 years is tantamount to saying.... we'll never get around to it. With initial contracts not being longer than 4 years generally; and the high mobility of players in the nfl; at 6 years maybe 10% of players are still with the team that drafted them.
