RUMOR: via Twitter... Matt Forte to Patriots talk...

Silly question, but didn't Forte hurt his knee last year ? I guess he's 100% now ?

A day later, this scoop looks more and more BS. Although if a trade is going to happen, it should happen in the next few days since there is an owners' meeting going on down in FL and that is when many trades get done.

Still mixed on the theory of the trade. Forte's skills and impact is undeniable. He is a stud who could be the Pats' Darren Sproles, maybe much better. But the Pats will have to give up a ton to get him between the draft picks and salary.

As anyone who knows me, I am the biggest "In Bill We Trust" guy. If he makes the deal, I will trust in him

He sprained his MCL. He should be fine.

Well, it's obvious that BB is trying to improve the running game, just maybe not in the way some are hoping:

Patriots had free-agent FB Tony Fiammetta in for a visit last week. @GregABedard reports team is close to signing him.

Is Polite still on the roster? This would give us 3 FBs going into TC.

Another FB? They just signed Spencer Larsen.

Different team/offensive philosophy but in 2003 both McCrary and Centers were on the roster...

I'm enjoying the FB renaissance for the Pats. At the least a semi-prevalent FB used to be a staple of BB's teams and the last couple years he's gone away from it. Fiammetta and Larsen are both fairly versatile, cheap and should provide some red zone support if one/both make the roster.

This guy also said the Patriots were in talks with Mike Wallace. I'm sure they;re in talks with both of these guys at once

Why couldn't they be in talks w both? Talks do not signify imminent signing.

His new contract included, that's a horrific amount of compensation to give anybody at his position and pretty much ensures that he won't be coming here. That said, I'm not sure why so many of you are trying to denigrate his skills. Forte is easily a top five (maybe even a top three) runner in this league. I guess one would have to look at our mentality as Boston sports fans. If he's a Patriot, he's the second coming of Walter Payton. If he's not, then he's a bum.

Rather passive/aggressive there, Con.

Matt Forte is a good player.

He WAS the best offensive weapon on an offense that sucked. He WAS NOT good enough to make the Bears a good offensive team.

By default, he will get good stats because he has to. He touches the ball more than anyone besides a QB.

He would not be a difference maker in New England. The historic QB and all world TE's are the difference makers.

Matt Forte is a "topper" guy in a position that is devalued. Everyone wants top guys at their position. This is valid for the long snapper and place holder.

Maybe Clay Matthews started this rumour so he can vacate the mythical perch at patsfans.com.

Duh, if reporters catch wind of something preliminary that doesn't ultimately come to fruition they're evil scum bag liars that don't have a clue and never should have spoke up!

Don't you know anything???

Huh?

Logoff, lunch is ready.

If we traded for him, I take it we'd have to pay him the franchise # of 7+ mil a year for him? If that's the case, I might be in the minority here, but i'd gladly sacrifice a 2nd and 4th for a 1 year rental of him, if BB didn't want to pay the man (and rightfully so) Forte on the Pats solidifies a SB championship for this team next year.

It was sarcasm... I'm on your side, brah.

Sorry dude, I've been hammered by the negativity on this board in re to this topic.

Wallace is a bad idea; Forte, OTOH, could be huge on this team. TerrellDavis to Brady's Elway for the next 5 years?

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

Run the ball! Kill the clock! Let Brady throw less than 60 times a game for once! I love it.

although, Forte will only be happy when he gets a contract bigger than Marshawn Lynch's. If the Pats are serious about trading for a RB, they should go for Jonathan Stewart. Younger, and probably cheaper too

Rumor or not, this deal makes too much sense. I would love to see Forte as a Patriot.

Yeah, I wouldn't have been too pleased with a big money deal/loss of assets for Wallace... Forte would be unbelievable in this offense, though. Corey Dillon 04 rushing yard potential AND a sick receiver? Sign me up.

In theory, we have the draft picks to acquire Forte and there should be enough left over for BB to get a few guys he likes/pull the traditional trade backs to keep the cache at more than 7 picks for '13.

Not really. All Boston sports fans including myself think that way from time to time. It's a stereotype for "us folk". I could elaborate with examples but I'd rather not derail the thread. PM me if you want to have that discussion. As for Forte, I don't disagree with your diagnosis of his role with the Bears but if you're going to go there then you should alsI acknowledge that he was a game changer on that team in spite of every defense knowing what was coming on top of being behind a rather horrible OL. As for his role on this team, we wouldn't need him to be game changing Matt Forte because of what we have at QB, WR, and TE. Thats yet another reason why I don't see him here.

You say Wallace is a bad idea, when the team could obviously use a high end burner at WR and the league has become a pass first, pass last kind of league. Then you say that Forte, who'll cost essentially as much in picks as Wallace, could be huge, when he's a RB and RB hasn't been a crucial position for Super Bowl winners in most of the SB matchups this century, and the Patriots won 2 Super Bowls with nothing but mediocrity at RB.

That's lousy analysis on your part, IMO.
