Tebow is a green bean!!!

While Lombardi on NFLN was claiming earlier that this was case of a team trying to recapture signing bonus in the event a player retired, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post it is not. The Broncos advanced Tebow salary in 2011 from his 2012-2014 salaries. They now want the JETS to repay that money. And they should. This isn't signing bonus money, which they would not.

Typical JETS announced the deal before they read the contract...

Tim Tebow trade not finalized? Jets deal hits a snag | First-and-Orange

Gold.

I wondered why the Broncos never announced their trade with the New York Jets.

The Broncos and Jets agreed to a trade that sent Denver quarterback Tim Tebow and a seventh-round draft pick to New York in exchange for a fourth- and sixth-round draft pick.

The Jets even announced the trade on their twitter feed. And th-e-e-e-e-e-n someone in Jets’ management decided to look at Tebow’s contract. The Jets were apparently in too much rush to make a news splash for their New York tabloids. They didn’t look at Tebow’s contract until after agreeing to the deal.

Would you buy a home without an inspections?

Here's an update from Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

Tebow trade not finalized | First-and-Orange

The contract says any team acquiring Tebow has to kick back $5.06375 million to the Broncos in advanced salaries from the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons, according to an NFL source.

Tebow received $6,277,500 million as advances from salaries in 2011 ($1,213,750); 2012 ($1,425,000); 2013 ($1,691,250) and 2014 ($1.92 million). Broncos paid the 2011 advance (and got their money’s worth as Tebow led them from a 1-4 start under Kyle Orton to the playoffs). But as Tebow would be a Jet today with completion of trade, Jets would be assigned Tebow’s contract.

The Broncos paid the advance, but the 2012, 2013 and 2014 salaries still go to team that gets Tebow’s services.

The Broncos expect the Jets to pay them back those salary advances from 2012-14 per Tebow’s contract. The Jets are balking. There is a decent chance this deal may die.

Now I'm confused because a few days ago Klis had reported that Tebow had hit incentives that caused his salary to increase; now he's saying it was just an advance, or pre-payment?

Jeff Darlington:

Broncos sources contend the trade was made in good faith, that it should stand and that Jets should pay nearly $5 million. Could. Get. Ugly

Just too darn funny.

Reportedly the Rams and Jags knew the language was in the contract and that is why they didn't trump the JETS bid...LOL

NYC lawyers must all be at the beach today.

This has really made my day- I don't know what's better; the prospect of the circus that is Tebow joining the Jets, or them being jilted at the altar.:singing:

I feel sorry for Tebow. Its a paradox, he just doesn't fit in. Like it or not, Tebow is a genuinely good person and that is exactly why he doesn't fit in with the "Jets way". Plus he's probably going to have to backup Sanchez...

I am fine if this falls through.

Jesus should not be coached by Jabba the Hutt.

It would have some benefits though- Sanchez sucks and thus the Jets are destined to suck, then Tebow would take over and the Jets would be destined to suck for longer. On second thought it likely doesn't matter much... they have a nearly unequaled run of 40 years of sucking, with or without Sanchez, Tebow, or Rex.

No, he had incentives and escalators. Still has them. They just advanced him some of his base salary (apart from that), which teams can do. Then it hits your cap. His contract stipulates if he's traded that team is reponsible for those advances (so they aren't getting him at a discounted rate). Denver would get a credit on their cap for the advance because the new team is now responsible for a % of that money. It wasn't a loan or a bonus or part of an incentive or escalator, it was an advance.

1) Tebow can probably agree to the trade and make this issue moot.

2) FAN is already calling for the trade of Sanchez!

so the trade dies and Sanchise realises he is totally unloved.

Win win.

LOL Just keeps getting better...

Adam Schefter ? @AdamSchefter

More craziness filed to ESPN: Jaguars are back in the mix, seeing if they now can pull off a trade with Denver for Tim Tebow.

The Jags (and yes i think that is the prefect nickname for that team) didn't want to pay him up front now the Jests (who I am willing to bet didn't expect to even be close to getting him) are thinking twice about it.

I would almost feel bad for the player if it was not Tebow. Maybe this is God's (gronk) way of testing him

What a bunch of complete dip****s!

1. For not knowing what's in the contract.

and

2. Actually trading for Tebow.

I give it 'till week 5 before the team from Jersey implodes upon itself.

This is great.
