Re: Kamerion Wimbley to be cut?

With the expected loss of Mark Anderson , i'd love to have him over here since he fits both the 3-4 and 4-3 scheme.

Please somebody please sign Mark he's horrific against the run and only has one pass rush move. Anderson is a joke against good Left or Right Tackles.

Re: Kamerion Wimbley to be cut?

The Patriots better at least check the price on Wimbley. There's simply not that many other talented OLBs on the market.

Agreed, he can rush the passer . at the right price he'd be great, plus hes a nole

Way too negative of an assesment.

He improved vs the run (to adequete) and has more than 1 pass rush move. Anyone that applies 27 Qb pressures and has 10+ sacks has more than one move to the QB.

If you think Anderson is a one trick pony, wait until you see Wimbley. He is very effective applying pressure(like Anderson), but it is the same thing every time. Very quick outside rush off the snap, outside hip of the tackle, bend low under the block, hit the qb.

IMO he is worse than Anderson vs the run.

Kamerion Wimbley Makes Sense for Patriots, But Aggressive Market Could Drive Up Price - Jeff Howe - NESN.com

Wimbley might be the best pass rusher on the open market at this point, too. He's a natural defensive end who has played outside linebacker at times in his six-year career. The Browns took Wimbley with the 13th pick in the 2006 draft, and he spent four seasons in Cleveland before getting traded to the Raiders.

The Florida State product appears to be at his best when he's a pure rusher. He had a career-high 11 sacks as a rookie, but the Browns gave him more coverage responsibilities over the next three seasons, when he only accumulated a total of 15.5 sacks. Wimbley has gotten it back in gear with 16 sacks over the last two years in Oakland.

It would make sense for the Patriots to show interest in Wimbley, too, because of his knowledge of Romeo Crennel's defensive system. And as the Patriots appear to be toying with the idea of staying with a 4-3 base defense, Wimbley would be a natural at defensive end much like Mark Anderson and Andre Carter in 2011. Wimbley also has a pipeline to New England, as Linta has represented about a dozen Patriots in recent years, including quarterback Brian Hoyer, center Nick McDonald and former guard Joe Andruzzi.

The problem will be the money.

Howe thinks the teams that missed out on Mario Williams will likely set their sights on Wimbley now, which could drive up his price. He thinks someone may offer something like $40 million over five years, which the Pats would not be willing to do; however, if he can be signed for $25 million over four years then the Pats could pull the trigger.

Just been released.....

Perhaps this depresses the market for Anderson.

That's ridiculous. He played very well for the Pats down the stretch last year. It wasn't just the pass rush and it sure wasn't just one move.

I think it's fair to question whether he will keep performing at that high level or if he will tail off like he did in Chicago, but you can't take away what he did last year.

Re: Kamerion Wimbley to be cut?

Mark Anderson was my guy last year. I wanted nothing more, in terms of personnel packages, than to see Carter on one edge and Anderson coming off the other. When both were out there it really was, like, the only time I thought our D looked dangerous.

But with all that being said, Anderson just flat out doesn't fit the system. He really cannot set the edge, and even against the pass; there are some guys who can rush the passer (bull rush, outside shoulder or inside) and still occupy their gaps. And then there are guys like Anderson who thrive on speed and even when he has his guy flat out beat to the outside or inside; he still doesn't really control his gap. And yeah, one play in particular stands out where he jumped off the line so well and could've stuffed a run in the backfield (like a sack on a handoff)....but he had to control his momentum and maintain his gap, and he just couldn't do it.

Situational player for NE, who could get a bigger role/paycheck somewhere else.

CSN New England's Tom Curran is "hearing" the Patriots will not pursue OLB Kamerion Wimbley if he's released by the Raiders.

Too bad. As if AndreC and MarkA are gone, they need another DE/OLB, and Wimby would fit a 3-4 and 4-3...
