If you can't beat 'em, raid their staff.

The Chicago Bears are scheduled to interview Jason Licht for a GM position with their club. Licht has been the Pats' director of pro personnel since 2009, and was also a scout and then assistant director of pro personnel from 1998 to 2002.

Bears set to interview four candidates for GM - Inside the Bears

Obviously this is far from a done deal as there are at least four other candidates for the job.

As someone who lives in Bear country, I can say that this is going to be an uncomfortable situation for the new Chicago GM. He will have to endure a head coach who hitherto has had a voice in personnel decisions and will probably be flexing his muscle to maintain this voice, as well as having to answer to someone who answers to ownership (president Ted Phillips), thereby being something of a middle-man. Less than ideal for a GM candidate who wants complete autonomy over all personnel/coaching decisions... although it remains to be seen if Licht does not mind coming into such a convoluted front office.

I think Licht is use to working in an environment where the HC is involved in personnel decisions.

You never know.. Licht might be given that autonomy and Lovie may be gone..

Bears fans have been screaming for an "overhaul" so if this does happen, there will be a collective rejoice over here.

Stop stealing our coaches! And front office people!

Jerry Angelo is friends with Belichick. I wonder how Belichick feels about one of his staff members potentially replacing Angelo.

Question is will Lovie be gone in the blink of an eye ... :confused3:

im pretty sure this is the first time i hear the name of our dir. of PP

hopefully he stays around a bit longer

(isnt to GM a big jump? isnt like VP or something between PP and GM?)

nvm, just saw this:

Patriots front office/scouting:
Senior football advisor -- Floyd Reese
Director of player personnel -- Nick Caserio
Director of pro personnel -- Jason Licht
Assistant director of pro personnel -- Bob Quinn
Director of college scouting -- Jon Robinson
Assistant director of college scouting -- Brian Smith

im assuming VP is assistant director, so the hierchy is: (giving Reese more than an advisor's role)

Caserio, Reese, Licht, Quinn, Robinson, Smith

GM and above all as well as HC: Belicheck

Why can't the NFL embargo this stuff until AFTER the playoffs?

Dimetroff was our director of college scouting when Atlanta tapped him for their GM slot. Guys like Pioli, who didn't even have the GM title - he was VP of player personnel, often have talented young guys stuck behind them and their assistants get poached as a result. Right now Caserio is as close as you get to a GM here. He overseas all the other guys, and he may eventually get the VP title and a raise. Licht and Robinson are really equals, just one focuses on the draft and the other on the roster and potential FA acquisitions or potential veterans to trade for. Both report to Caserio. Floyd is basically a contract negotiation specialist here. Pioli used to handle that and it is usually part of the pro personnel director or VP's job. But given Caserio's relative inexperience when Pioli departed they brought Floyd in to handle that aspect of the job. Organizations often have someone on staff who handles that other than the actual GM or pro personnel guy. That was what Andrew Brandt (who at one time was an agent) did when he was with the Packers. We had a guy who did contracts when Bill first got here. But he left after 2004 and they didn't replace him, Scott just added that to his duties.

I believe we were the catalyst for this off week playoff interview thing, due to Weis and Rac never getting a real shot at head coaching jobs.

Am I right? Close?

Same comment I made in the thread complaining about all the non-1pm games. Simple solution start having a losing season every year. Nobody raided our staff in 1990!
