Parcells may be lured back to Big Apple

By Adam Schefter
NFL Analyst

Adam Schefter's "Around the League" reports and commentaries can be seen regularly on NFL Total Access.

(Jan. 8, 2006) -- With Ernie Accorsi retiring, the Giants' general manager search now looks like a reality version of All in the Family.

Patriots vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli rejected the chance to interview for the Giants' general manager job Monday, but his father-in-law, Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells, is a contender for it, according to a high-ranking NFL source.

It is, according to the source, a longshot. But there is a shot that Parcells could wind up leaving Dallas to finish up his NFL career as the general manager of the Giants, shopping for all of New York's groceries and teaming up with the Mara family once again.

The Giants have debated -- and are continuing to debate -- the merits of such a move. Parcells' future is one of the hottest mysteries in the NFL. He has offered little insight into what his thinking is, even around his current Cowboys assistants.

This would be a good last stop for Parcells. If he can get rid of the talkers on that roster and make his old team legit SB contenders again, that would solidify his HOF status.

Parcells needs to do NOTHING to solidify his HOF status..He is a shoo in-Period.

With the large classes Canton takes in every year, you're right. I guess I should've said turning the NYG around as a GM would add another accomplishment to his legacy.

I could definitely see that happening. Especially since I don't see TO leaving Dallas. But, if Parcells isn't willing to do at least 3 more years in the NFL I'd say he stays where he is.

If this story has any merit to it, I wonder if it was influential with regards to Piolis decision to "politely decline" to interview. Would possibly make for drama within the close circles of family/connections if he were to "compete" against Pops for a job.

Great point. That would be a really awkward christmas dinner!

adam schefter has a habit of creating stories ..honestly..imagine him being GM and then firing coughlin ..same guy he competed against this yr ?
schefter throws out these possibilties regularly...

Tell me that the Tuner doesn't look like a man who hates his job, a totally different persona than the guy who coached here. He has the same look on the sidelines that he had coming out of the tunnel onto the field for our 96 team's SB. When I saw that thousand yard stare I knew we were toast.

Given Jerry Jones and his ego, TO the game's connsumate Nimrod, and Romo already elevated to the HOF by the fanbase, it's got to be a lousy job for the egomaniacal, center of attention driven Tuner.

I think Parcells has a pretty good gig down there in Dallas. Get rid of TO, Romo will be a solid QB, address their secondary issues, and the team is going to be very strong next year.
