Yet some people would rather stay at home than go to the game

New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Have mercy. I might be in the minority, I can't stand these two. They are not as insufferable as that other group, but they always say stuff that make steam come out of my ears.

Just my opinion, but anything is better than Dan Dierdorf. It's baffling to me how that guy keeps his job.

For better or worse Nantz & Simms are CBS' number one crew, so I guess it's a compliment that we end up with them so often. It's interesting to see how hard CBS is riding the Tebow-mania ratings gravy train: this will be the fifth straight week those two have been the announcers for a Broncos game.

Eh, whatever. At least it's not Joe Buck.

Nantz is so flowery and vanilla. Simms is OK most of the time plus he loves the Pats/BB.
Aikman has insight...but he just seems so unhappy and put off. Collinsworth grabs onto a talking point and hammers it to death for three hours. I'll take and aging Brent Musberger, solo in the booth, any time. The guy actually gets excited and elevates his broadcasts. His Celtics calls in the 80's were the best.
This new bunch, I find myself yelling "shut up" at the TV way too often.

I actually don't mind listening to the radio broadcast of the game on the radio. I had to work on a few Sundays. The Play by Play was pretty good.

I would love to go to the game. I have no one to go with.

Go by yourself

I've done it a couple times for playoff games - though I have a couple season ticket holder friends to tailgate with. I find it a good way to just enjoy the game - doing everything on your own whim, surrounded by pretty friendly strangers.

To each his own.

I do like these two broadcasting teams. They are far better than the others CBS offers. Far better than Fox and ESPN offers.

That being said, Jim Nantz has a bigger crush on Tebow over Brady.

I recall a comment on the radio following the first Pats/Broncos game that seemed to make some sense of why there was so much said about Tebow during the game from Nantz and Simms even though most knowledgeable football fans could see his flaws.

The NFL, of course, it all about making money. Tebowmania is drawing in the casual sports fan because of all the hype. Therefore, rather than continually point out the mistakes Tebow makes, it's possible they (the broadcast teams) have been told to spin everything as positively as possible. The goal is to keep people watching and if they keep hearing that he's exciting and a star on the rise, etc., maybe they watch again or buy his jersey or anything else NFL related.

Again, not my opinion, but this was a topic of discussion that seems to have some merit.

As Borg mentioned, I too find Nantz bland, and actually prefer Grag Gumbel's play-by-play.
Simms' problem, like most other ex-jock analysts, is that he over-praises players & coaches.
In the case of Tebow, we now know the reason why.

Personally, I reserve just about all of my announcer hatred for Joe Buck and Cris Collinsworth. Everyone else just falls into a "yeah, they kinda suck, but oh well" zone.

Wow I think this is the 5th game in a row that Nantz and Simms are covering the Broncos. They have been covering them since our week 15 match up on December 18th, and pretty sure they then did the Broncos/Bills, Broncos/Chiefs, Broncos/Steelers, and now this game.

They are by far my favorite announcers. Im just glad it isn't joe buck and troy aikman(yes i know they're at fox) because they have the ability to turn an exciting game boring with their monotone voices.

When we get the "B & C Grade" announcers I go out of my mind as they are completely inept.. Criqui/Cross, Harlan/Wilcots, Eagle/Fouts all suck.

IMO compared to who we could have, Nantz and Sims are fine, both understand the game, both understand the Patriots and know the players..

Nance and Sims are alot betther than most other pairings Im ok with it.

I like Phil Simms, Nantz is basically a nothing, doesn't offend, nor does he make you feel any emotion about the game.

Off topic, When I downloaded the Pat/Broncos highlights from iTunes, I was shocked at how much I liked the Broncos radio team. They were very insightful, professional, and not over the top. They made me realize how much I hate the Jets and Colts radio guys. I hate radio guys who scream, and or call the players by their first names. "Peyton hands off to Joseph" or "Peyton throws deep to Marvin" used to make me cringe. The Broncos guys were pretty damned good.

I'll take Marv Albert Over Everyone! I can still hear him callin all those TDs from Steve Grogan Back in late 70s & 80s when Grogan was abusing Jets. Flea Flickers, Bombs & SG Runnin wild.

i think they are the two best announcers on CBS as long as i dont have to watch it on NFL network and hear Mike Mayock talk about Tom Brady and Champ Bailey combine Numbers from 12 years ago im ok
