Andy - ever heard Einstein's definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. You think that might apply to our secondary from 2008 - forward?

What are you talking about?
We have exactly zero players from out 2008 secondary.
How about Andy's definition of insanity? Pretending something applies to a situation that is not applicable.

Just because your a mod, doesn't excuse you from making stupid threads. Enjoy this one star.

where's the "no beginning or ending" option?

Unfortunately "NO" wasn't an option.

Belichik is in the midst of a task that is incredibly difficult to achieve, rebuilding an entire roster around a HOF QB. He had managed to rebuild 90% of the offense but still needs a quality deep threat. The defense is another story and clearly needs work but can be a really good defense for the rest of Brady's career if they make good moves in the next 2 years. They need help on every unit but they also have some key players they can build around and the picks to fill the holes, the question will be whether or not they pick the right players. The DL can be built around Wilfork and Love, the LB's around Mayo and Spikes, and the backfield around McCourty and Chung. In my opinion one really good offseason can turn the defense into a top five unit and the team is already a serious contender even in it's current state.

I really enjoyed the one star, but someone spoiled it. I hope that bug goes away soon.

I think it's to be determined. For this year they'll be a playoff team. Once they get there it's basically how far can the offense take them. They are going to have to be lights out every game to win. First game they're aren't it's over.

Do they have one more title in them after this year? Depends on how they draft and if they can bring in some good veterans who are both leaders and play makers.

Everybody has media disease and wants to make a definitive statement one way or the other when reality is in between.

Agreed. The last few years have shown me that we often struggle against the better teams in big games, especially in the playoffs. What's frustrating for me, is that we often seem to get out schemed and out coached. If we lay it on the line and play aggressive, I'm ok getting beat.

Exactly. If we play hard and lose to a better team, then that's all we could do. But, if we sit back and watch them throw it to Heath Miller 6 times in the 1st quarter, we need to do something different.

They're 5-2 after a 14-2 season. Are you people mental??

I guess there is a lot of panic in Patriots land today> The D is awful- BB has lost it as a coach- We need a deep threat- BB is an awful GM.

So is the the beginning of the end of the great ride we Patriots fans have had for the past 10 years?

a poll will be coming to get the pulse of teh patfans members.

Did not vote....

1) Has BB lost it?
2) Does the receiving corps require a "deep threat"?
3) Has BB's personnel decisions crippled the team?

1) NO. Nothing to date has shown this to be a true statement. The team lost a game yesterday, against a very good opponent. Ugly game in all 3 phases, yes.... but our D did their job in the RZ, for the most part.... the final score could have been much more lopsided. The O didn't see much grass as a result of our inexperience in the secondary; long drives helped by Pats DB's waiting for the play to have happened in order to react. Blame to coach, or inexperience? Would Leigh Bodden have saved the game?

2) Maybe, depending on a given opponent's strengths. We have our offensive strengths, and I like what we have right now. Who wouldn't like a Megatron on their team? How many Megatrons are there? Conversely... how many teams would love a TE duo that the Pats have?

3) Maybe, but for many decisions, the fruits will be seen in time... or the tree will be barren. We do not sow for today; so who can tell? Again, would Leigh Bodden have saved the game?

People are so funny..Are the days of being the absolute best team in the NFL over right now, prob! I don't think there is any great teams right now. If we played Pitts,Ravens, GB or NO 10 times the games will prob be split. That is how the league is...Alot of parity and mediocrity. Pittsburgh was obviously very pumped for this game especially since MANY fans and media talkers gave them no chance. This team is absolutely good enough to win a SB. Its all about who gets hot at the right time and get a good draw. Honestly, I rather they play on the road for an AFC title game. There would no pressure at all like there used to.

The New England Patriots are in dire need of a great defensive draft. No more trading down or trading out of the first or second round.

Why do some people keep comparing this team to the teams of 01, 03, and 04. Talent wise there is no comparison, wake up and face reality. This defense does not have the talent to win a SB. There are no Bruschis, Harrisons, Vrabels, McGinnest or Seymours in their prime on this team.

What is a ride ride?

Look when we win it's a good face ride and when we lose it's a good rump ride.

I think the last 10 years have given us great, enormous rewardings to the point of making us us after a loss but still at 5-2 almost a catastrophe ... that said I think the Pats will remain ,until that Brady will play, a team with high levels of potential play-offs-the problem, probably serious, will be after...

I stopped drinking Kool-Aid when I was 14...or so.

We still have Belichick and Brady, and they haven't forgotten how to win.

And every year we see teams get hot in late November, or teams like the Cardinals in 2009 who end up in the Super Bowl.

Sure the secondary has issues, but we still do a solid job in the red zone. I believe we'll improve as the season goes on and the weather turns.

We have two stud tight ends that are in their second year, drafting Soldier, Vollmer, and Marcus Cannon should pay off. Ryan Mallett has the tools, football acumen, and work ethic to pick up TB's mantle in a few years.

I like Spikes, Chung, and McCourty as a long term starters who still haven't peaked in potential. Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley are fully capable of being an effective backfield long-term.

We have two 1's and 2's and a 3 and 4 in next year's draft....We're in solid shape moving forward when you consider all 32 teams rosters and future prospects.

The last two times Belichick lost after a bye, the team made the playoffs. The last two times we lost to the Steelers in the regular season, we came back to beat them in the AFC Championship (01, 04).

And the last time we lost to Buffalo we won the Super Bowl.

Things are looking good from my end.

Well said. :rocker:

I've been a Patriots fan for a long, long time... I'm not going to start screaming the sky is falling when we're 5-2.

I loved the pats just as much when rod rust and **** macpherson coached them.......

there is no beginning, and there is no end.......

all I know is that we have another game to watch next week.......

I ain't buying into what BB has been doing the last couple of years, but my devotion to this team is unconditional

Thats ridiculous. The Patriots were good enough to win the SB last year. They were the best team in the regular season. They were good enough to beat the Jets at home, but fell short, and already have trounced Pitt who went to the SB.
Being good enough to win the SB and actually winning it are not the same thing.
They were good enough in 2010, 2008(if Brady hadn't been injured) 2007, 2006, 2004, 2003, 2001. They won 3 of those 7 and missed a 4th by seconds.

We can forget about this 2001, 2003 and 2004 season. They has players that Parcells drafted that were great/HOF players. Now they have none of that. We have a patchwork secondary that is being held together by spit and duct tape.

We are talking about whether or not the ride is coming to an end. As long the pats have Brady it isn’t over for them. BB always had the potential to add some players to help this defense. BB needs to stop looking for value and needs to stop rolling his picks over every year. Do you realize that BB drafted 22 defensive players since 2006 and only 7 of these players are on the team? As long as he keeps swinging and missing with draft picks the pats will continue to be in purgatory.

The game has changed and what BB did in the past does not work. The league is now pass happy league and BB is simply not putting together a defense that can even remotely stop people from throwing 300+ yards a game on them.

Best team in the regular season means nothing. This defense was never good enough to win a title last year. Or the year before where they did not win a road game. The year before Brady was injured so they get a pass. In 2007 they were the best regular season team but as the year went on I was starting to see issues. I did not think they would win the giants game because they were getting worse and worse in as the playoffs went on. However I do agree that is a game they could have won. The year before that is when the pats traded Branch and had freaking Reche Caldwell as their #1 receiver. Regardless of whether you agree or not this is a team that is built to have a decent regular season and faultier in the playoffs when the games really got tough.

Looking through that rear view mirror is always 20-20, but one of the reasons that Parcells wanted to leave NE was that he was not allowed to, "shop for the groceries" and he reiterated that mantra several times..

He had some good drafts in the three years, but it was not all about him.. Mr. Kraft used to be much more involved than he his now..; Bledsoe, Slade, Rucci, Brisby, Troy, Willy McGinnest, Max Lane, Ty Law, Ted Johnson and Curtis Martin.. of those draftees only Troy, Willie and Ty Law started in that Super Bowl.. Bledsoe on the bench..

People always want to deify Parcells, but the facts are that Parcells never won a superbowl without Belichick, but Belichick won 3 without Parcells..

Your second premise is completely wrong and makes no sense, the intent is to be a winner in the regular season and in the playoffs, do you think Mr. Kraft would stand for mediocrity??.. this league has great parity, and teams have ups and downs last week New Orleans was exposed. San Diego a preseason favorite which is loaded with all stars has lost three in a row... teams are filled with injuries and busts, could the Pats do better? Of course, but on any given Sunday..
