Someone's getting the boot.

By Mike Reiss
The Patriots claimed cornerback Antwaun Molden on waivers from the Houston Texans today, according to a league source.

The 26-year-old Molden entered the NFL in 2008 as a third-round pick out of Eastern Kentucky. He has not started a game over the last three seasons, appearing in 32 contests.

This marks the second straight year the Patriots have claimed a player from the Texans. Last year, the team claimed offensive tackle Steve Maneri after Texans waived him.

The Patriots will have to make a corresponding roster move to make room for Molden (6-1, 200), who joins a cornerback group headlined by Devin McCourty and Leigh Bodden, with Kyle Arrington, Darius Butler and Ras-I Dowling also on the depth chart.

Bodden has been sidelined with an undisclosed injury since the team's second preseason game against the Buccaneers.

The Texans let go of a CB...and someone picks them up?

Maybe BB thinks he can be used in a different manner...but didn't the Texans have one of the worst pass defenses last year (was he even on their roster last year...I would sorta feel better if he wasn't).

"Guys who'll be here for just a few days for $1000, Alex"

Maybe someone will trade for him. BB is always thinking .....

:youtheman:

At 6'1-200, maybe he is getting a look at safety.

Never heard of him…but if you say his name really fast 3 times, it start to sound like "Anquan Boldin." That would be cool.

Although it means absolutely nothing now, he was a third round draft pick just three years ago. Maybe one of the college football gurus from the Draft Forum can give us their opinion on the guy.

BB is going to be in for a real surprise when he realizes its Antwaun Molden, not Anquan Bolden

Regardless of Merriweather's status with the team, I thought this excerpt on his 2008 draft card from nfl.com was interesting.

With the size and speed teams look for in a shutdown cornerback, Molden also offers a prospective future employer a player who has excelled as a gunner on special teams. With his tackling ability inside the box, he could see a shift to free safety at the next level to take advantage of his ability to consistently make plays in front of him.

Just what is the point of this brilliant acquisition? The dreaded W's were both better than this guy.

I heard his nickname is Mr Moldy.... not so fond of that

On the same day Pats pickup this guy, who may or may not turn into a player, the Falcons pick up a CB with significant starting experience in Kelvin Hayden to be their 3rd or 4th corner.

He is from the 2008 draft class......went after Wheatly and before Wilhite.

Hayden sucks.

Texans messageboard seems like a likeable bunch heres to hoping they knock off the Dolts this year.

Like this kid a lot. I've been hoping the Texans would release him for a while, now, in anticipation we would add him to the roster. Very pleased with this move.
