Brady is pissed, this is a weird year around here don't u guys think...I mean we have 9 wins, but there is just something about the attitude this year...
Brady went to AND WON three Super Bowls in his first five years in the league. I am thinking that he might be coming to the realization that he may not get there so easily again.
Being the best two teams out of the whole league takes a lot of talent, great coaching and a little bit of luck. To do it 3 out of four years is just extraordinary!
This season, the front office stripped him of two major WR targets and that's probably on his nerves a little. His team has been decimated (again) with injuries - that's gotta piss him off.
But I think the bigger picture is that he probably set expectations for himself and his team of winning it all at least 2-3 more times in his career and it just may not happen. I am not saying it cannot happen, but odds are it won't.
This 2006 team is a nice team, but certainly not as clutch as teams passed.
Really, how can you ask a team to endure the losses of players like Rodney Harrison, Willie McGinest, Adam Vinatieri, et all, and coaches like Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel and just "keep on keeping on".
Look at the 2006 team's losses - all vs. Conference opponents, and save for Miami, all teams they'll be bucking up against for playoff spots.
VERY un-Belichickian!
I think Brady is just coming to grips with the fact that this team is just not all that special. It's part of his maturation process. And his awareness is leading to a little bit of frustration.
When he looks back on his career from the podium at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony, he'll know what he had in 2001 - 2004 was special. He know that being in contention every year and winning divisions and playing with the guys he played with represented an opportunity very few in his profession ever get.
But, right now, hes just craving more wins. Another Lombardi. Good for him. He should be setting his goals high.
But, honestly, with this 2006 team, his goals might be out of reach.
As a fan, we should be thrilled with what this team gives us year and year out. They're like the Bird-McHale-Parrish Celtics of the 80's.
Always in the hunt, winning a championship here and there, but always a force to be reckoned with.
Growing up a Pats fan since the late 60's/early 70's, and having to endure a veritable Tsunami of losing for years and years, this "Kraft" era has been nothing short of beautiful!
Three rings? Awesome. First round playoff wins? Excellent! Division titles, quality players, a great coach, a primo stadium, etc.
We're lucky.
Our boy Brady? Nothing short of winning it all is okay with him. Excellent.
It's why we love him!
Keep pushing for the top, Tommy. It's a pleasure to watch you work!
