There no way to know whether Belichick would consider an OT or a RB at 17. I don't think that he wants an OLB. I don't see any of these being available after about 25, except possibly for Ingram who could slip. For example, Draftek's consensus has all gone in the first 20. Additional QB's and one of the CB's could move these down a few, but not to where they are available at 28.

Generally agree with the following caveats:

Jones - Floor is STL at #14 and they won't trade down if he is there
Amukamara - Ditto for him with DET at #13
Ingram - If he makes it to #17, reasonable chance he makes it to #28
Wilkerson - While possible, the draft would have to fall really bad for him to be at the top of the board at #17
A.Smith - Just too talented at a position of need to not consider at #17

So to me, barring a serious drop for a top 10 guy I can only see 4 options at #17...Jordan, T.Smith, A.Smith and Watt.

It's very hard to do since we do not know where BB's heading in regard to Matt Light.

We have already taken a hit at OG with the loss of Neal. If BB passes on Light, we would lose 40% of our starting O Line and basically we are left with injured Kazcur and backup at best Levoir as a starting OT.

If we let Light walk, i think we have to look at Costanza at #17, provided he makes it by Detroit at #13.

If we resign Light then we can wait and draft Ziemba in the 4th round and let him earn a roster spot by beating out Levoir or Kazcur.

I am hearing more whispers about the Pats and Saints having a deal on hold where the Pats jump up to #24 and grab Wilkerson.

Yes, if Wilkerson were there at 24, we would want to move up to get him. We might even be willing to move higher.

Would you be willing to move up for Taylor if Wilkerson is off the board?

Yes, Taylor is worth a mid 20's value and we badly need a defensive lineman. Heyward is another possibility in this regard. If we don't get a DE with our first pick, then moving up with 28 (or 33) seems to be a strong possibility.
Wilkerson, Taylor, Heyward

Would you be willing to move up for Taylor if Wilkerson is off the board?

No. All I have to do is look at how hard KC is working him to know Pioli isn't sure about the kid, as badly as KC needs a solid NT, they are trying to take Taylor apart and see what makes him tick.

what would people think of picking the OT smith at 17 but if we bring back light and mankins... pushing him in to play RG?

Everyone seems to say he is a RT and a big strong one... seems like anyone who is an elite RT and a strong RT could have the feet to play RG in the Pats system. What do people think? i just thought about that then. It'd basically be doing what happened with mankins but on the right side.

THE LEFT SIDE
First, it's not the same thing at all. NFL LG's are often LT's in college. There is a set of skills that are necessary for both positions on the left side. LT's are the best college linemen. LG's are not. So LT's often come to the nfl to play LT or LG.

THE RIGHT SIDE
Why would anyone think that a RG was worth the 17th pick in the draft. They are arguably the least valuable positions on the line. Besides, if I wanted a guard early, I would just draft the best RG, and that wouldn't be Smith. We can get a fine starting RG at 33 or even 40. Pouncey, Watkins, Ojilana, and Wesinewski all come to mind.

SMITH
If Smith is worth the 17th pick or a pick even earlier, then it is in order to play LT. In this pro day, he convinced lots of folks that he can indeed be a starting LT. If no one wants him at LT, then he will drop out of the top 25.

THE PATRIOTS AND AN OT
The pats could very well draft Smith or Castonzo at 17 to play LT or even to compete with Vollmer at LT, with the loser going to RT. Personally, I don't think that this is reasonablke unless the players is expected to start at LT. Finally, if we take an OT at 17, I expect Light to be gone.
