Patriots McCourty Has Impressed So Far

Looking back to that day back in April when his name was announced, I can still hear the collective groans like it was yesterday....

One of the things McCourty needs to polish, is the technique of turning-head when he is next to the WR.

Save to say that when Bodden comes back, next year, McCourty will be on the other side...

I can't go as far as saying "Impressive" but I will admit that he does not suck like most of the other cover guys we've drafted or signed.

He has made 2 plays this year that stand out:
1. The 4th down tackle vs. Miami (he cut the player down instead of wrapping him up but it was effective).
2. The breakup of the first pass of the game against TO.

On the flip side, he has 2 PI calls against him. Just as the previous poster said, he needs to learn to turn his head or there are many more where that came from. I can see him picking up atleast 2 PI calls in the Indy game alone.

Also, Butler has been targeted so much that Devin has not been exploited as much as he would have been had Bodden been here.

I think it speaks volumes that opposing OCs are targeting a second-year guy over a rookie though.

He's still got a ton to learn but the rookie has played better than anyone could have expected.

I've been very impressed b/c my expectations were so low going back to draft day. I like the guy alot.

Impressed is a big word, opposing WRs have been very successful on Devin in his rookie season so I think he has a ways to go,not every rookie will look like Revis,so in time we will see.

Whatever was going on in the Miami game, someone deserves the credit.

I don't think Henne was too effective. There was a reason he was throwing into coverage.

Unless he's blind.

I think you summarized that well. Here's a question for you:
How often does a "Revis" come out in the draft? If it is only once every 5-10years then I guess I am more than happy but a little less than 'impressed' with Devin.

Revis types are rare although we see more and more rookies learning the game faster every year.
