MacMullan: It was all about the ego

Well said. Everything may be true about Moss but the Pats have got to manage the situation. They could have resigned him or made him a promise in order to put his mind/ego at ease so he could finish the season and maybe his career here. I think you may want to make an exception for him because he is THE BEST WR IN THE LEAGUE!!. You have to manage each employee a little differently.

And what makes you assume that they didn't attempt to do that?

what year is this again? Is it 1997 again?

i don't think anyone is saying that there are no other teams worth playing for. i think she is saying that the moss brady tandem was a pretty special one and it is a shame that it couldn't last longer.

..

the man who could have -- more specifically, should have -- gone down as the greatest receiver in nfl history was presented with a golden opportunity in new england, but he became so focused on securing himself a new contract, he forgot about everything (and everyone) around him.
.....................

Ultimately I think Randy Moss will miss us more than we miss him.

Re: MacMullan: It was all about the ego.

He was just traded to a team with a QB who loves the deep ball.... I don't see it having a negative effect on Randy. Moss will definitely do better without us (due to our current dink and dunk offense) than we (watch the ravens game for the first example) will without him.

Even Jackie, as a Moss hater, admitted how important he was to our offense:

Favre's interception to td ratio will be through the charts this year. Favre is an espn-urban-legend. That guy is the biggest choke artitst on the planet....however, ESPN wil continue to kiss is ass - and as an extension - kiss Moss' ass. It will end badly. Stop eating what ESPN force feeds you. There will be no SB in the Vikings future as long as Favre and Childress are there.

The one thing that does resonate with me regarding that article is that Randy really ought to be quite happy with his tenure in NE. The Patriots did rehabilitate his image. They did help him make a lot of money.

Thank you, Randy.

Good bye.

BTW - how long have you watched Patriot football for? I've asked this question before and you fail to answer. I'm guessing 2003? You are a spoiled, spolied fan. If this move enrages you so much, I suggest becomming a fan of the Vikings.

I'm following the team since the early 80's and this move enrages me. Its the first one to do that since we let Curtis Martin walk in '97.

So don't try and categorize somebody just because you want to get one up on him.

I do not see how this could possibly enrage anyone more than the Milloy bomb. It's just not possible. I know! BECAUSE IT WORKED OUT!

I have been watching the Pats for the same length of time and I have seen this offense become something I was not that big a fan of. Truth. Now, has it taken a hit? Yes. Is it as bad as everyone here thinks? I say no.

My perception of this Teenuh person is that he/she is more of a Madden fan than a football fan. Just a hunch.

People talk about egos. I've personally been a coach in another sport and everybody has some sort of ego problem whether its too big or too small. Ego doesn't lead to a player not talking to somebody, thats a totally different problem and its something thats manageable if you know how to man manage.

I had a guy, the best player on my team who would sulk or get pissed if he didn't see much action in a game. You just gotta talk to the guy and let him know how important he is and you agree with him for the most part and when he finishes talking you talk and point out one important thing to him, then you go and remind him of some good games and bring out the positive side in him. Its not that hard to do, it just takes a little time. You just gotta understand that everybody doesn't have the same mental age. Some guys never grow up completely but that doesn't mean they can't do a job for you.

That's a very simplistic attitude. I don't know what sport you are talking about, but I have coached several players like that in Football. My experience is that players like that drain the coaching staff and wear on the team.

Without fail, every one of them (despite superior ability) have let the team down. One quit right after making a mistake in a game, another did not play in a championship game with a questionable injury, another completely zoned out in another championship game and quite possibly cost us the game.

In each circumstance there was another less flashy option with better work ethic and more desire. I kick myself for not making the move to replace the "High Maintenance Star Player" earlier.

The question you have to ask yourself is whether or not the player's contributions are worth the strain on your staff and your players. Usually the answer is no. Until now, I think the answer has been yes with Randy but he had clearly started to disconnect mentally and it was time to end it.
