RETURN TO SMASHMOUTH FOOTBALL
Mike, did you get the game over there??
yeah, I was charting Mesko for the first about three quarters and he was averaging 44 yards and change...haven't looked up the final stats yet but he's a good five yards better than our previous punter and gets good hangtime.
No. Not so far as I know, but I don't have Sky TV here in the UK. I'd be very surprised. Murdoch is hugely invested here in football (soccer) so the NFL is the poor relation on his networks.
The game started, anyway, at 12:30 am, which would make it a long night for a pre-season game, so I didn't search for an internet feed. (Shows I'm just a fair weather fan ... )
Still, I'll be back in the Land of the Free (airport strikes permitting) at the end of the month.
I'm surprised more folks haven't commented on mEsko's fine performance. Although I didn't hear any numbers it seemed to me his hang time was really really good; and the coverage team had time to get downfield. I'm think the Pats have a real winner at punter for a change.
Great breakdown, as always. I noticed this thread and it was the first one I ventured into. A couple of things I noticed...
5. I stated last week and I'll say it again that if there's an odd man out in the receiving corps, it's probably going to be Holt. There were a couple of points in which I saw Tate take a CB and a safety with him over the top. He made another outstanding catch and kept both feet in for a big time first down. Edelman was also a beast. I don't think I need to say anymore than that. I think we'll be seeing Moss at flanker, Tate at split-end, and Welker and Edelman in the slots. That will be a hard package to cover. If we're going to bring in a fifth option, I would have to think that it would be Hernandez at this point since he saw a lot of time with the first team. Hernandez looked good at some points and completely lost at others. This is to be expected from a rookie though.
Thanks for the summary. Looking forward to actually watching. Leading up to the game there was a lot of media talk about how Tate has done well in camp, but we'll see how he does getting off the line when the DBs are jamming him for real in a game. I take it he did fine?

Are Sky guaranteed to have the TV deal this season?
good thread and post ... Brady looks very big out there ... looks like he has even more muscle than before.
However ... if he wants to be intimidating ... he needs to lose the haircut ... it's too Beiber.
But one thing that we should all remember, before getting too pumped up, is that this is the first preseason game. There was a VERY vanilla gameplan from both teams. Also, a lot can change from now to the beginning of the season. But, all in all, this appeared to be a great step in the right direction from the problems that plagued us last season.
Football's back!! :rocker:
