NFL Offseason moves which may impact the draft

Great Blue North Draft Report
Late round pick cleared up … There has been some confusion about the compensation Detroit will receive from the Jets in a deal last year that saw the Lions send QB Kevin O’Connell to New York. The Lions were originally thought to have acquired a 7th round pick in this year’s draft in exchange for O’Connell, however, recent media reports indicate that the pick is actually the Jets’ 7th round selection in 2011. As a result, the Lions have seven confirmed picks at the upcoming draft, while the Jets will have just four.

Per NFL Network news minute: Redskins' LT Samuels is retiring due to a neck injury.

An offseason move that needs to be done is sign Bodden. If we lose this guy it changes everything. Not only would we need A DE,LB,TE. We'd have to add CB to the list of gaping holes. I can't imagine having to use a first round pick on a cb with a draft so deep with Defensive line and LB's. Not saying it would go that way but dissapointing would be a better word if they did. Not a very deep year at the cb position.

After watching Haden run so poorly in the combine, I am beginning to think that the Pats might be well served taking Jackson of Alabama in the second. He already knows our defense, the signals and the calls. He is decent in run support and fast enough to cover most NFL WRs.

Well that news does impact the draft.

Washington should be thinking LT early since they lost Samuels. They'll probably go QB in the 1st though, since Snyder likes making splashes over substance, but they should get a new OT as soon as they can, probably with their 2nd round pick.
The Jets should be thinking about an NT since Ferguson will be suspended for 8 games and Jenkins will be coming of a season ending injury.
They might be contenders for Cody.

As for the Alabama CBs, check out this article on Arenas vs Jackson:

Obviously they are a little out of date since they claim Haden has 4.4 speed. He ran closer to a 4.6 at the combine.

Today may have been a good day for another pass rusher to drop to 22 with Kampman signing with JAX.

A 2011 impact...

TEXAS A&M SPRING FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK | AggieSports.com | Bryan/College Station, TX
Depth at defensive line. Senior nose guard Lucas Patterson and sophomore defensive end Adren Dorsey looked good in Sunday's scrimmage, earning them more snaps Tuesday.

A&M has more depth on the defensive line since it has switched from a 4-3 alignment to a 3-4. "There is a lot more competition there, which is a good thing," Sherman said. "I think we're making some progress."

Sherman added that there's a couple players from the incoming fall class who should also help.

Sherman said he's read the riot act to all players at every position, that they better earn starting berths by the end of spring or he'll give that spot to a freshman in the fall.

Warren takes break from books. Former Bryan High and Texas A&M standout Ty Warren was at practice. Warren, who was selected to the New England Patriots' All-Decade team for the 2000s, is back in school to earn a degree in agriculture leadership and development. He plans to graduate next spring. Warren gave up a $250,000 bonus he would have earned by taking part in New England's offseason program to be in school. Warren was drafted by the Patriots in the first round (13th overall) in the 2003 NFL draft. He has played in 105 career games for the Patriots, making 92 starts. He has Super Bowl rings from 2003 and 2004.
