Falcons sign CB Dunta Robinson

Per Schefter via twitter.

6 year deal. Good news, bad news. One potential team for Bodden is off the table, his price may have gone up. Id rather Boddin over Robinson, but Im worried someone will overpay for him.

Re: Schefter: Falcons reach agreement with CB Dunta Robinson

I predict, $20 million signing bonus, overall will look like $8.5 million a year.

Antrell Rolle looks like he'll be getting $8 million a year from the Giants and he just barely started playing safety this year and he's just average.

Re: Schefter: Falcons reach agreement with CB Dunta Robinson

He's from Athens, expected him to land there.

Re: Falcons sign CB Dunta Robinson

I want to see contract details, not guesstimates.

Re: Schefter: Falcons reach agreement with CB Dunta Robinson - 6 yrs, $57M, ($25 GTD)

Schefter on Robinson's contract:

Adam_Schefter

New Falcons CB Dunta Robinson cashed in with Atlanta. He signed a six-year, $57 million contract that includes $25.5 million in guarantees.

Re: Schefter: Falcons reach agreement with CB Dunta Robinson - 6 yrs, $57M ($25 GTD)

Holy crap. Bodden's toast guys. This guy got about 9.2million a year Bodden is very close to him talent wise, he'll probably command 8.5million a year.

Re: Schefter: Falcons reach agreement with CB Dunta Robinson - 6 yrs, $57M ($25 GTD)

Wow...just wow...

I can't believe Dimitroff would pay that much for a guy with so many question marks. I'd rather sign Bodden for less than take Robinson if I were Atlanta.

And yeah, the price tag for Bodden just jumped, perhaps out of our range.

Re: Schefter: Falcons reach agreement with CB Dunta Robinson - 6 yrs, $57M ($25 GTD)

Well, that is concerning. Robinson is merely average, and that's a ton of coin for an average player.

Re: Schefter: Falcons reach agreement with CB Dunta Robinson - 6 yrs, $57M ($25 GTD)

It was nice knowing you, Leigh.

Re: Schefter: Falcons reach agreement with CB Dunta Robinson - 6 yrs, $57M ($25 GTD)

So much for Robinson maybe taking a hometown discount. Will be a miracle if we re-sign Bodden now.

I am blown away by that kind of money being committed to a player who has by most accounts, been very average these last 2-3 years......

Ughhh, so frustrated, do you guys realize what are needs will be by the end of the weekend?

Starting 2nd WR for half season, 3rd receiver for whole season
Starting OLB
Starting DE
Starting Cornerback
A Punter
One or even two starting TEs

Honestly, this doesn't look too good IMO.

Bring on Marlin Jackson.

Tedy Bruschi isn't walking through that door. Rodney Harrison isn't walking through that door.

Thank god Brady IS walking through that door. As long as we have that man, we're competitive.

(Deion Branch may be walking through that door)

Hail to this. I think we have as many holes as a bottom 10 team in the league. However, Brady, Moss, Wilfork, Mayo, Meriweather offset them making us a good team instead of a bad team.

That's an astounding amount of money, and the guarantee number is huge, but who knows the real value of these contracts especially in an uncapped year.

Seriously, you can structure the deals like this:

2010: $8 million salary guaranteed. $9 million signing bonus. (uncapped)
2011: $4 million salary guaranteed ($5.5 against cap).
2012: $4 million salary guaranteed ($5.5 against cap)
2013: $4 million salary ($5.5 against cap)
2014: $13 million salary ($14.5 against cap)
2015: $15 million salary ($16.5 against cap)

This is a frontloaded-backloaded contract.

As long as you cut him after 2013, the contract is much much smaller than it appears.

That means he will have earned a total of $29 million over 4 years.

Don't forget BB. He (and Brady) is the difference maker, IMO.

lets hope Wilhite, and butler, can step up.

And that's why it is BETTER to sign them early. When the market gets set high, their asking price goes up. I don't see BB willing to give Bodden anything close to 9M per year.
