No Peppers is a good thing

Three year window? Elway won championships until he was 38. Favre had one of his best years this year pushing 40. Rich Gannon didn't even get good until he was in his mid 30s and won the league MVP in his late 30s. Brady's window is potentially 8-9 years.

Don't count on it

Brady is great but in all likelihood he has 5 or less years of "his prime" left

The Pats need to make a push now

The Patriots roster is so shot it made no sense to bring in a high priced FA with absolutely no supporting cast.

Look at each position and tell me where they are truly set and strong. It's time to blow it up and reshape the roster as they actually have been doing since last season.

Seriously, if the Jets can't win the AFC East they are really really bad. As it stands they do have a far superior roster.
Wow.

15 hours into free agency, and due to no big-name signings the team should just waive a white flag, surrender, cut everybody and bottom out like Tampa Bay or St Louis because there's no way they can compete as is.

I really think fantasy football and video games are altering too many people's perceptions of what is and is not a good NFL team.

So let me make sure I understand the logic here: When the Patriots have Bruschi, Vrabel, Seau, Harrison etc... they are old and slow and need to get younger. But when they have young guys we here "the roster is shot", they don't have any proven guys....

Does that some it up?

if you can sit there and say the prospects look good for the pats LB group, then OK....I understand your point

do you think the pats LB group looks good?

Because they were better than them this season with virtually the same roster.

Depending on what happens with Bodden and during the draft, of course.

The Jets are also limited in FA, which works to our advantage.

except that one could argue the jets offense will be much better prepared since edwards will be there for training camp.......it may not be an offensive juggernaut, but with that defense, they won't need one.....

while you can say the pats finished with a better record and won the division, you really are a homer if you think the pats were a better team at the end of the season

Yes it's a great thing, a team with no pass rush last year will improve by simply resigning their own players. How could that possibly fail???

no....from the product on the field standpoint, it stinks and for the fans it kind of stinks, but again, why put up 30-40M in guarantees when 8-10M of that will count for a 2011 season that may not happen?

from a fan perspective = bad

from a business perspective = good

Dumbest thing I've ever read

Jets made the AFC Championship

We got blown out at home in the first game

Jets are the better team with no room for debate

Exactly what part of my post are you disputing?

No room for debate? That's nice. Then you won't mind me adding you to my ever-expanding ignore list.

No what really is altering our perception is the pathetic pass rush we put up last year, and the humiliating playoff lose to the Ravens. And this teams reluctance to spend the money to improve. Every year it's the same salary cap argument, well there is none this year and still no play makers added. This team is in a downward trajectory NOT on the way up. What's truly sad is that BB could have made Peppers a monster and the numbers could have worked with some front loading, but I guess TBC will get 15 sacks next year!!!

I think if the Patriots and Jets had played in the playoffs, more often than not the Patriots would have won.

I expect the Patriots to, once again, be better than the Jets in 2010.

I'd love what you'd say to a Jets fan is the situation was vice versa. The Pats were the better regular season team, the Jets had the better season overall, thus being the better team that season. Their defense was damn good. But what's that you said about not having rose colored glasses?

cute, but totally baseless.....the pats could not beat the jets without welker earlier in the year......

on top of that, if the ravens could run all over the pats, so could the jets

Of course you do, what else would we expect?

Surely you wouldn't say the Jets had the better rushing offense/vastly superior defense at the time?

Tom Brady was a beaten mule by season's end. No Welker, no real #2 receiver..Defense just terrible. I mean how can you seriously say that?

Sorry, but that's not how it works.

Because I don't agree with the premises you've put forward.

As baseless as declaring that the Jets will be better than the Patriots this year... in March?

it's semantics. Jets backed into the playoffs as well...so getting Peppers would of solidified our run defense?

Talk about baseless.

We have Tom Brady, the Jets have Mark Sanchez. In the NFL this kind of disparity in QB quality is more than enough to overcome the rest of the roster's apparent inferiority.

Is this with or without Welker?
Our offense without Welker would have struggled to score double digits on that defense IMO.
