Re: SMY: Dean Pees FINALLY fired

The NFP says Matt Patricia is widely expected to be promoted to DC.

Hmmmm. Not impressed at all with the play of our LB's these last couple of seasons.

Re: SMY: Dean Pees FINALLY fired

I'm a little confused by those who thought Pees did a "solid" job, unless we're using "solid" to mean, "most of the time he was able to put 11 players on the field."

I'll grant that Belichick has set a high standard for defense--maybe making it difficult to be objective. But what's the job of the DC? I'd say it includes:

--Making sure the defensive unit is ready to play at the start of a game

--Adjusting to the other team's gameplan and responding accordingly

--Appropriately using the tools (players) at your disposal

--Taking the talent you're given and improving it over the course of a season

--Instilling in the unit a degree of accountability, competiveness, and toughness.

Sad to say, I think Pees failed at every one of these.

Re: SMY: Dean Pees FINALLY fired

What makes you think Al Groh would be any better?

To be honest I could not think of anyone better right now, mainly because he has worked with BB before IIRC

Maybe Perry Fewell is a possibility

I think the talent at linebacker has been the problem recently

That's not saying much. If that's the case, should have just kept Pees.

Re: SMY: Dean Pees FINALLY fired

Good news.

Hopefully Bill O'Brien is the next one out the door.

Re: SMY: Dean Pees FINALLY fired

Best of luck, Coach Pees. Wish it would have worked out for everyone.

Were you impressed with the Pats' LB play in 2004? Yes? Pees was the LBs coach that year.

Were you impressed with the Pats' LB play in 2005? No? Pees was the LBs coach that year.

I think it was talent.

Re: SMY: Dean Pees FINALLY fired; NFP: Patricia "widely expected" to replace

BB is certainly going to be killed by the boston media for this for blaming the DC for everything. Asmuch as i wanted pees gone i wish they had asked him to retire or resign or somehting.

Fewell is a 4-3 cover-2 coach. And he was hired by the Giants today.

Same goes for Caldwell in Indianapolis....Does anyone think he is a great new coach or just a shmuck lucky enough to be the coach of the best QB in the league this year?

No one will ever know how much of a legend Belichick would have been if Brady were not at the controls all these years.

Re: Dean Pees FINALLY Fired

Pepper anyone? How about a Johnson instead?

Tough to judge Pepper's coaching. He was "takeaway skills" coach in both good takeaway years and bad. Line play has been very mixed, given the talent level, in his time as line coach. BB famously had to position-coach Wilfork personally for a bit before Wilfork "got it" about pro techniques.

Despite what I just said, I'm inclined to think well of Pepper. But if BB wants to try somebody else -- who also has a very mixed track record -- instead in Patricia, I'm not going to squawk much.

we saw how our defense fared under romeo with monty beisel and starks. i dont think he was given the tools to work with like crennel . its very unprecedented for BB to fire a coach like blaming someone else for the troubles but it has happened.

Re: SMY: Dean Pees fired (Reiss: expired con); NFP: Patricia "widely expected" to rep

Mike Reiss just reported via Twitter, citing two sources, that Pees' contract was up at the end of the month and will not be renewed.

fresh blood from outside organization

cOULD HAVE USED dOM cAPERS NOW...

no ojt COACHES PLEASE

Re: SMY: Dean Pees FINALLY fired; NFP: Patricia "widely expected" to replace

Don't forget, we may not "know" officially who the new DC if its Patricia, per BB's usual rule of not naming first-time coordinators. Maybe a dark horse candidate is Al Groh? I doubt it though.

Fewell is known as one of the guys who still runs the Tampa-2. Why would we even consider him?

BB talked about staff, personnel, and scheme changes that would be ahead. I'm hoping the Pees firing kills two birds with one stone. Staff change and scheme change. Hopefully BB is looking into moving to an aggressive one gap 3-4 scheme.
