I think something like that could be in the pipe line here. They sign Lackey, which free up Buchholz, trade Lowell for a prospect and our going hard after Chapman, who would replace Buchholz as the best "young pitcher" in the Red Sox system. I think we could see a deal for an Adrian Gonzalez here, they have all the pieces to do it.

I like Mike Cameron, but I'm concerned in general about the direction of the team. They have improved their pitching and defense this offseason, but neither of those were issues last year. Against the Angels, and against good pitching in general, their problem was a lack of offense, and all they've done this year is make their offense worse! Replace Bay with Cameron/Hermida, replace Lowell with ? AND still pay most of his salary, Papi's another year older, etc. I hope their working towards a move for another bat, because this team is not going to score enough runs to compete in the AL East.

That said I also recognize they would have to grossly overpay to keep Bay, and that probably is not a great option either, plus Holliday hit about .220 in the AL.

I agree with you on all points there, Bay we need but would have been to much, Holliday was so/so in the American League, but we need a bat to compete. I think that they are either going to get Beltre or Gonzalez, because we have to get another person that can hit. That being said I like this move for the Sox, and love what they have done with the Cameron/Lackey signings.

This in part looks like a major PR move by the Sox. Mike Cameron is hugely respected in the baseball world. Seems like a good replacement for Mike Lowell in that area. The Sox leave no stone unturned and PR is a huge factor for them in the corporate world ... Mike will be doing it on the field and off for us this year.
