So now that you've seen the defense for a half season...

I'm just stunned. For 3+ quarters, the defense looked pretty good... what happened? How did the defense completely fall apart? I mean, they looked like a JV squad in the final 5 minutes of the game. You can't blame the offense either, because we won the time of possession by 5 minutes. This is the exactly type of loss I worried about. I wouldn't have been to concerned if we lost it in a low-scoring, close game, but losing a 17 point lead with 5 minutes to play just doesn't make this team look like a SB caliber defense.

I still believe the D will be fine by the time they get to the playoffs. They have plenty of time to figure out how to play 60 mins against the elite passers.

As for the OPs question about Seymour? ummm, I still like the trade, and think the D is doing OK without him. There's just no way to know for sure if they'd be better with him. He could be injured right now if he stayed with us. There's just no tellin :confused2:

I don't blame the defense for those last 7 points. I blame BB's lack of faith in anything that isn't Brady-to-Moss/Welker/Faulk

His lack of faith in the running game on 3rd and 2, and again on 4th and 2 shows his complete lack of faith in both the running game and defense. And we've seen he's reluctant to go for FG's sometimes as well.

BTW Mayo missed a huge tackle on the run that made it a 6 point game. You can see in the replay Wilfork is double teamed and Mayo is free to plug the hole, instead he's kind of just frozen behind Wilfork and doing nothing. The RB ran right through his gap. Mayo and Meriweather still inconsistent

Worryingly they looked the same in the Ravens game when Flacco marched them down the field with ease

For some reason in the last 2 minutes when were defending theres no rush, the D backs all play 5 yards off and we give up yards like candy. That has to stop or we'll get burned in the Playoffs

How many times have they lined up on a crucial 4th and 2, and made it on the ground???? I don't blame BB for not having faith in it. With that said, we need to improve that area of the offense. I never feel confident on a 4th down, and they try to run it.

I've just never understood why in the last 3 years or so when ever we need a defensive stop, it's a 2 minute drill, or a 3rd and long, the defense just plays almost like a prevent defense. It hasn't worked in the past, so why the hell keep doing it? The defense worked in the first 3 quarters, did they actually decided to call different plays in the 4th quarter because of the score?

Can't keep Manning down all game. The officials will take care of it if he doesn't. For me the offense is the problem. 10 second half points, 7 of those coming on a 7 yd drive after WW's punt return. Just like 2006, couldn't make a single first down with the game on the line. Need to be better.

Mark this down as another game that we would've won with Seymour.

Run it on 3rd and 2. Hopefully get the 1st or atleast make it so that it's within inches. It wouldve run the clock down too.

If they didnt get the 1st down there, then on 4th it would (ideally) be just inches to go, and run a QB Sneak.

Makes no difference if your d-backs play 5 yards off and let the opposing offense have 10 yards each play

Being able to get pressure without blitzing makes all the difference in the world. Peyton Manning will always make you look like crap if you let him stand back there and dissect you, and you can't blitz him.

Could there be any chance at all (or am I just delusional right now) that this game could be a "wake up" call for the Pats defense? Could this be the game that tells them "We've got work to do, it's time to man up, hit the woodshed, and get better"? Is this the kind of adversity that makes a team work hard to improve? I'm really hoping that this game will motivate this defense (and coaching staff) to get this defense back to dominating.

I'm really not hoping (and worrying terrible) that this game will shatter the confidence of the defense/team and will make them regress.

Dont get me wrong, the one thing we all KNEW this team missed was decent OLB's or 4-3 DE's. Thomas is washed up. Burgess is a wasted draft pick IMO, Woods isnt who BB thought he was. Banta-Cain is OK but we need to spend some of those first day picks next year on a couple of young studs

Wilfork and Warren are dinged up week in-week out, Green is out for a while and Brace isnt coming on as quickly as we hoped so given all that the front 5-7 are doing a great job as much as they can

I'd like to hope we play them again in Jan with a fully fit defense for 60 minutes

Personally when Manning gets in the "groove" he was in last night, extremely difficult for anyone to stop... also think out D had played quite a bit were exhausted, and the injuries had built up to the point that the best choice was to try to move the chains...

If the defense can't stay on the field for 25 minutes then it has serious problems.

Not really, 25 minutes with Manning is like 35 minutes with other QBs.

You're always running up to the line and not getting the chance to sub on and off.

Injuries hurt us today.

If only we had the Terd there as a spell for Wilfork for a few plays and as an extra body.

I also thought the Pass D looked good until the end of the 3rd quarter. That was when they started looking in the middle of the field and then they set up Garcon to beat Bodden.

Then it was the same on Wayne against Wilhite. I feel for Wilhite, I think he's good and could be very good, but Wayne set him up at the end. The plays before that in the red-zone had Wayne going fade, slant out, quick out, fade. Then he runs a quick in-slant and Jonathan had no chance. But I think he is going to be very good.

Butler was a tackling machine but had a bit of a struggle at times.

By the time we play this Colts team again. In January, we are going to have one hell of a fast, young, hitting defense.

What happened ...

1. The DL was pooped playing all game without Warren and Green. We couldn't stop the run. Colts ran for 38 of their 91 yards in the 4th quarter.

2. We got no pressure whatsoever on Manning.

3. We reverted to our old friend the BBDB defense, which breaks every time.

Pretty simple, and fairly predictable if those 3 things happen that someone as good as Manning will find a way to take advantage of it.
