Belichick has dealt with several of these leaving a relatively manageable number. Obviously, we still have Wilfork and Gostkowski.

In addition, we have the situation at guard. Mankins, Neal and even Simmons are just signed through 2009.

Beyond that there isn't two much to be concerned about. Of course, there will be annual group of free agent corners and a linebacker or two.

Mankins could be a difficult resign and I think the team is not going to guarantee that Wilfork gets his money just because Seymour is gone and they have cap room.

I think cap room means NOTHING to this team when it comes to value of the player,They have a ceiling figure to what to offer Wilfork to what they think he is worth to the Patriots and won't budge any higher and if Vince does not accept it he will be gone as well.

Someone will probably be franchised though.

It's looking more and more like 2010 will be uncapped. If so, Mankins and Gostkowski will be restricted free agents, and Worfolk will be the only one we need to worry about.

i agree mankins gets the new deal if they play a 4-3 full time i cant see them giveing a 2 down run stoper 15 million a year

15 million a year? 2 down run stopper? You should re-think where you get your info from.

Wilfork I can imagine being gone.

Same with Mankins.

If they try to break the bank with their deals....the Patriots won't do it at two positions they can get just about anyone to do. Maybe not as well but serviceably.

is he a pass rusher ? tommy kelly got 8 million a year from oakland you dont think wilfork can get at lest 11 million in the open market ?

if they did not pay samuel a young shutdown corner 9 million a year i cant see them giveing a NT 11 million a year

Again, please note that Mankins may not have much choice but to stay, if there's no new CBA, unless a team is willing to cough up a first or maybe even a first and third for him.

Of course.

But isn't that just a one year deal anyway?

It'd just be delaying it by a year.

What's more important to a 34 a premeir nt or an excallent not shutdown corner. Bb builds his defenses from the inside out not from the outside in. And if you've watched the preseason games you'll clearly see Vince was our best defensive player, stout vs the run and was a beast penetrating the pocket so I don't buy that 2 down player talk sorry.

i agree that the NT is the key to the 3-4 but right now unless burgess or woods becomes a big time OLB i see them playing the 4-3 more

who know maybe wilfork and brace at DT this year becomes our adams and Siragusa like the 2000 ravens had

my whole point was never to say that wilfork is not a good player but i think if it comes down betwen mankins or wilfork i think they sign mankins over wilfork

I too see them playing more 43 this year, if the combo of brace and wilfork can become close to the combo of adams and siragusa, which I think they can and could even be better that would be awesome.

But I disagree when it comes to resigning mankins over wilfork, even though mankins is awesome, a premier guard is much easier to replace than a premier nt or dt, which Im positive vince can play both at an elite level. Time will tell though...
