well..cassel didnt MERIT a 1 yr 14mil contract. it was the tag price. florio likes to drum up spicy news.

No. 3 Pick Not Involved in Cassel Deal

Turn my back for just a second and look what happens in here. Anyway, interrupting the PFT Invasion, I wanted to drop a nugget of info on the Cassel to KC deal. The Chiefs first round pick (No. 3 overall) is not part of this deal.
I'll have a more fleshed out story up on the site shortly.

well...pioli wasnt running the texans. if the texans gave up too much doesnt mean chiefs will. maybe the performance of schaub after the deal is a deterrent of giving up more for backup QBs

The only reason that the Patriots didn't get value is because Cassel happened to blow up in a year in which he was to hit free agency. With Schaub, he was under contract, and the team giving up the 2 seconds got him for at least a year with a cheap contract. That's why he had more value.

Still, the Patriots gave up a second for that CB from Arizona. I can't even remember his name, he played so badly.

The Patriots originally dealt Cassel to the Chiefs -- now run by former New England vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli -- on Friday for an undisclosed draft pick. Now it has been learned that the Chiefs will get both Vrabel and Cassel in exchange for the 34th overall pick in April's draft.

I won't believe this is final until Schefter reports it, but if this is true, I still think we did fine.

We have no need for Cassel and he was holding up the opportunity for us to chase FAs and re-sign some of our most valuable players for the future.

We were able to unload Cassel immediately while picking up a top 35 pick, which usually merits first round quality players.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Matt Cassel is expected to be traded to the Chiefs, but there may a third "mystery team" in play.

Schefter has softened his wording, saying the deal has been "agreed to" and "expected." Paperwork has been drawn up; Cassel will be traded. Schefter says there is now some question whether Kansas City could be his final destination. The "mystery team" is supposedly a surprise, which would seemingly rule out Tampa. That team could either swoop in or get involved in a three-way deal. Cassel is also working out a possible contract, which is probably the biggest factor in holding up this news. It's possible the Patriots agreed to trade compensation, but Cassel's contract demands are holding the deal up. If Cassel is dealt, it's safe to say the Tyler Thigpen era is over before it started.

if pioli trades to cassel and vrabel fora 2nd rounder and then trades cassel for another teams 2nd rounder, it could mean he got vrablel for almost free. it would be a good deal by him.
