I figured now that the Varitek situation has been resolved we needed a new inane thread of various babbling :blahblah: over Lugo.

Seriously ... is there any hope :confused2: that Lugo could be better this year than Lowrie.

Lowrie looked okay last year, committed few errors and hit okay. Could Lowrie get alot better or is he ... will he be what we saw last year?

Should we keep Lugo around? I would say :nono: but I'm not the GM Theo is.

Will Lowrie suffer a sophmore regression?

Alex Cora ... so he signed with the Mets. I liked Alex but he was getting painfully slow.

Oh well ... like I said ... just a thread to babble  until the truck heads south and we have some more important stuff to talk about.

i say keep him around and have a position battle in ST. If he out plays Lowrie, than he starts and Lowrie can be the UTL.

Lugo can play...he just has not played well lately

Lowrie should get better. Hes young, hasn't played much, and played most of last season with a broken wrist.

We are stuck with Lugo unless we take back an equally bad contract which doesn't seem likely. Right now he is our super utility guy who could possibly win the job in ST.

I think Lowrie will be a little better at the plate this year. Towards the end of the season pitchers figured out how to get him out and he needs to make a few adjustments and he will be fine. He was also playing with a broken bone in his hand so that should help as well.

Last year Lowrie said he was going to add some muscle to his body. It would be interesting if he does and becomes a 25 HR a year shortstop who hits between .280 and .300. I think he's already shown some skill to become a good gap hitter. Even if he becomes just a notch below Youk and Pedy we'll be in great shape for the next 3-4 years.

If hes a notch below Pedy and Youk, hes an absolutely elite player. I think thats a lot to expect of him.

FWIW, a .280 hitter who hits 25 HR a year would make him one of the best hitting SS in the league.

I LOVE Lugo as a backup. I don't care how much money he makes (it isn't my money). He can play defense well enough (he makes some errors but has good range), hits just fine for a back-up middle infielder, and he provides great speed off the bench. He is a much better player than Cora, and that's who he would be replacing.

As for Lowrie, who knows considering the broken wrist. He definitely had a hole in his swing that was exposed later in the year (was it up and in? it's been awhile so I may be wrong on where he hole was) but that could have been due to lack of strength in the wrist.

Off the top of my head I was thinking that I'd be really happy with .275/.350/.400 from Lowrie, and it turns out he was pretty close to that last year at .258/.339/.400.

I think we're stuck with Lugo. He makes too much money to be attractive trade bait, unlike Crisp whom we actually got a good reliever for. And we basically have nobody behind Lowrie. so I think we're stuck with Lugo as our 9M per year utility infielder. LMAO. How ridiculous is that?
