If there's one thing we've learned from Bill is he is prepared ...
So with Pioli and McDaniels in the news I am sure Bill has already made a few phone calls.

So take a guess or two ... who has Bill called ... off the record of course.

Pete Mangurian as the new OC or or smeone from the outside?

Dom Capers to move to the front office or someone from the outside?

no one. they wouldve planned this an yr or two back. you will hear some name like thomas dimitroff which you havent heard before and thats it .

i would expect macdaniels and pioli let BB know like last yr that this yr they may be interested in moving on, and so BB is not completely ambivelant to that fact

I think this is how it plays out...

I thought Pioli and Mcdaniels were gone, but the only shot of this happening is in Kc.. Which then would free up Cassel to go there.. If Kc is not a option then here is what happens..

Pioli will stay, and sign a long term deal..

Mcdaniels will stay another year, because, Cleveland believes in Mangini

Detroit is a train wreck, I see someone else there

Denver- Stoops or a big name there

Jets- Billick/ Spaganola...

not to nitpick but doesn't Kraft appoint the GM, not Belichick?

(I obviously understand BB would have a monumental amount of influence on the appointment)

If I were Spags, I'm going to Denver. It's a good organization with a good offense already in place with good receivers and a potential franchise QB on the roster. Their defense stinks. He's a defenisve guy. Rebuild the defense and away you go.

THe Pats don't have an official "GM." Belly would be that guy, but it's not his title. Pioli was the VP of Personnel but still had to report to Bill. I think Bill would just hire another guy to be the VP of Personnel and Bill will stay as the HC and defacto GM.

If McDaniels does leave, should the Pats hire internally? I'm sure Bill has planned for this but not much has come to light on who else is involved in the offense as far as game planning. I remember when Mangini was still a DB coach, there was already talk about him becoming an HC so it was not a surprise to see him become the DC when Crennel left. Also, before Weiss left, I remember reading some articles of McDaniels so it wasn't like he came from nowhere. So the if McD does leave, the next hire is going to be someone we probably haven't heard of that is tied to the Pats org.

Ernie Zampese and Al Groh

Well, I've floated this comment around the board, but I still think that Mike Shanahan would make an excellent OC for New England if McDaniels leaves.

I don't see Pioli leaving. I think it's a lot of rumor-mongering. yes, he might well opt for somewhere else, but I just don't see it. Cowher's turning down the JESTS job is big, because it rightly points out what a disaster that club is, and I can;t honestly see Shanahan taking the helm there.

That leaves him with the option of maybe hiring on here, or, more likely, going into the broadcast medium for a year or two to let things settle down.

Anyway, that's my 2-cent's worth. Regardless of what happens, I suspect that Coach has already planned it out and knows what he'd like to see happen.

Respects,

Respects,

Why would shanahan become an OC under bb when there will be teams willing to get him as a GM coach ? More importantly BB believes in the continuity of the system and promoting from within. If Mcd leaves you will hear that BB will be the off coordinator while some guy will be unoffically be the coordinator for an yr just like Mcd became one.

Ernie Zampese and Al Groh

As a UVA alumni, I can definitively state that you dont want Al Groh anywhere near this organization. Look at UVAs record since 2000 when he took over. Stagnant.

Zampese is 70 years old. Are you talking about his son who coaches Palmer?

:agree::agree:

Because a man with Shanahan's pedigree just won't run to the next HC job offered. Look at Cowher and the Jets, for example. Pioli and the Browns. I'm not saying it's a slam dunk at all, but Shanahan would be foolish to take the Jets HC job with all the stress and circus crap that that would entail, when he could get a pretty good payday in NE as an offensive coach. If he wanted to, and it was offered.

I can also see him going into some network gig for a year or two to decompress and see what jobs open up.

I don't think there's any way that Shanahan would choose to work "for" BB. The guy was one of the longest tenured HC in the NFL. I truly doubt he'd be looking for an OC job.

Probably not too far off. I was going to put it this way:

"Himself, if he has more than one cell phone, which he no doubt does."
