Re: Schefter: Browns want answer from Pioli today

funny, about a month ago those who posted that Pioli might go to another team ( hmmmm...was Kansas City mentioned?) had their intelligence questioned for saying it was a possibility.
Heh heh. My intelligence should not have been questioned. My attitude and behavior, sure, but my intelligence .... Never.

with Mcd being asked for permission to interview does this indirectly indicate pioli has decided to leave and wants the browns to at least interview McD ?

It doesn't indicate anything other than there will be interest in McDaniels.

I agree, especially considering they are talking to other candidates (who knows why). If they hadn't talked to anyone other than Pioli, then maybe it would.

ESPN just added this article. The news is no news, but the article adds some candidate names.

hopefully, Pioli will stay here. If we don't hear anything next week, he will be here for sure.

So the Browns want Pioli AND McDaniels?? Wow talk about stealing a front office...

I would just caution everybody don't try to predict what Scott's going to do either. He's got a great job and he's well aware of that."

Thank you Kirk Ferentz. That should shut people up on saying Pioli opinion supposedly having soured on the Patriots or that Pioli somehow feels disrespected by the Pats.

Lerner said that Pioli made some astronomical demands that no team would be willing to meet. I'd bet that Lerner wasn't willing to give Pioli absolute control of football operations for the Browns. I really can't see Pioli making this decision today and, if he doesn't, he's staying put. There's also a lot of speculation in Browns land that Pioli does not want to leave the Patriots.

I hope Pioli stays with the Pats, but I would not wish it on him that he work for an Ownership that would seriously consider hiring Mangini as HC. However, a Pioli/McDaniels package would be tough to resist both for the hiring team as well as for Scott and Josh. It might appeal to both of them to help return a storied franchise to glory after many years of decline.

Harboring that long a memory about perceptions of being disrespected in the past will only give you agita on this Board. Let it go. We have all posted things that, with 20/20 hindsight, were either brilliantly prescient or amazingly dumb.

Well-said. In fact, that post should be on the masthead of our messageboard, as a friendly reminder to one and all.

Pioli not on Thursday deadline - Cleveland Browns Blog - Browns Beat - cleveland.com

UPDATE: According the Cleveland Plain Dealer Pioli is NOT under a deadline to decide today.

There may not be a deadline but this wouldn't be a wise move on the Browns part, you don't hire the coach first and then the GM or the man that will run your football operations. If this happens Pioli is not going to take the Cleveland job and it will have nothing to do with whether he likes Mangini or not:
I’ve heard that Browns owner Randy Lerner was very impressed after spending time with Eric Mangini and is giving him strong consideration for the head coaching job.
