Because it might impact his ability to earn five times that over the remainder of his career that will be over before he's 40 and set up his children's children for generations?
I know for fans it's the lucky to be here league. For players it's a career they believed they've already worked hard half a lifetime to have earned...
Honestly Ray if someone promised you $14M to not be or do something you've worked your whole life to be or do and someone else offered you $20M+ in cash with the implicit guarantee of earning $30M+ over the next 3-4 years and potentially $65-100M+ over the next 10 years to do exactly what you love to do and have dreamed all your life of being - is it really a no brainer for you to take the chump change and run?
And FWIW franchise $$$ while guaranteed is paid out over 17 weeks once the season starts. Signing bonus money is in hand on the day you sign the deal.
So he's worth 75 million now. Wow!

If I was a 7th round draft pick who hardly played in college and wasn't even a good backup prior to this season (I know I'm asking a lot, but be honest) and somebody said 14 million I'd sign before they changed their minds.
I've seen plenty of first and second rounders who've had a few good games you could sign for minimum and a bag of chips right now.
If we can sign and trade him, that's great, but i wouldn't pay him 14 million to play or to sit. I still don't think there's much between him and Guttierez. Most of his passes are safe ones where the receiver turns back and makes a target, taking advantage of doubles on Moss.
