NFL.com Blogs Blog Archive Millen’s departure causes a second vacancy

According to Adam Shefter, Matt Millen's firing caused a vacancy on the coveted NFL Competition Committee! Don't you think we should start a write-in campaign to have either BB or Scott Pioli (in case a GM has to be replaced w/ another GM) appointed in his stead? The knock-down drag-outs with Bill Polian and Jeff Fisher could be legendary and cause years of entertainment for the NFL. Since they've lost Brady as a hook for the year, this is another way to keep the drama in the NFL!!!

Seriously, does anyone think there is any chance someone from the Pats could get appointed? I don't but it would be great.

Yeah that would not only be ironic it would be a hoot. His first topic DB's can be rougher on recievers.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

*whew*

Okay, then...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Not that he'd ever be allowed on the committee in the first place, but I don't think he gives a damn. Just tell him what the rules are and he'll beat you with them.

No way will the league allow the Pats on the Competition Committee one year removed from Spygate. I can see guys like Arlene Specter, Gregg Easterbrook, and others crying about conspiracies and cover ups if they did.

That's what I was thinking! Just think of all we could accomplish! Man-handlng receivers - IN; Phantom PI calls - OUT; Goal line cameras - IN; Bad Refs - OUT! Even if they shoot down most of BB's ideas, he could come out at press conferences and say in his typical monotone, "Well, we tried to get these rules passed to help the whole NFL, but some losers from Indy and Tenn. kept the good stuff out. It is what it is." Polian would be attacking people in the hall ways. Awesome stuff. It'll never happen though (although if I was Jonathan Kraft I'd be on the horn trying to get a Pats guy on there).

Since it is a GM's seat that is being vacated, I would think that they would probably replace Millen with another GM-type.

I don't think he gives a damn either, but I think he'd do it just to give Polian & Fisher a coronary. Just some light-hearted thoughts for the day!

Pioli, maybe. Bill, not a chance.

How do you think that interatction between Bill B. and PoLIEan would go?

They are likely to be down more than 1 member before long. They tend to hand out this plum job like a preemptive endorsement, which explains why guys like Marvin Lewis and Millen ever even got the nod... So who's the flavor of the month rising/emerging star? Someone from Buffalo perchance...only Millen was NFC. Maybe someone from the NFC West... The Committee seems to be 6 GM/Presidents (we have neither unless you count Jonathan) and only 2 HC's (one of whom from the AFC has one foot out the door) and divided NFC/AFC. Bill couldn't be bothered wasting his time anyway.

BB should apply because he will bring a lot of changes to this committee. I would love to see a Pats guy in there.

He should apply, if only to aggravate Goodell..........

I vote no. We'd never hear the end of it if Pioli was on it.

I would think that Jonathan Kraft would be a reasonable addition to the committee. It was Jonathan that was involved in the union negotions.

I would think so too, except certain members of the committee itself, plus Sheriff Roger would rather choke than let the Pats get a foothold on this Committee. Who determines who gets on? As someone else pointed out, Marvin Lewis might not be on there for long.

And we all know how well that worked out... The Krafts handle the business end of the operation here, and that has proven to be a good thing.

The competition committee is field of play related. The team president's who serve with two recent exceptions (owners Mara and Richardson replacing Brown and Jones in 2000) were also GM's with total football ops authority at least when appointed (McKay has hung on though his in Atlanta is now debateable).

I would LOVE for a Pats guy to be on the competition comittee if only to piss Polian off.

BB on there would be F'n hilarious, but that ain't gonna happen

My guess is that the open spot is reserved for Arlene Sphincter. What a joke.
Kraft would clean this group up but it won't happen, these clowns own the league and make the rules for the select few(themselves).

If it's going to be a GM-type, and we can assume somebody from the Pats on't be invited due to PR reasons, then who should go?

How about somebody from the Eagles, they're always competitive, despite their fans.
