In looking for someone to blame for yesterdays debacle I think people are forgeting that football is often a game where one side compliments the other. Yesterday was just the opposite, the defenses problems hightended the offenses problems and the offenses problems hightened the defenses.

You can't ask an offense to mount a comeback when the defense can't stop the other team from scoring.

You can't ask a defense to stop the other team when the offense can't give the de a break.

I don't know what came first yesterday the chicken or the egg but I know that it was about as bad a complimentary football game as I have ever seen.

The silver lining is that I think yesterdays poor complimentary football is more of an abberation and probably has nothing to do with a inexperienced QB and more just one of those things that happen.

well, its true but you wouldve expected more of the defense to stop 20-30 yard passes from chad to their TE and stop at least once the college trick play.

I agree with the first part.

I agree to a point with the second part, but not completely. In this particular case, the defense's fatigue could be a part of the problem but clearly not the entire problem. One of the other reasons they were fatigued was because they couldn't get off the field. Even if they hadn't given up the late TD it would have gone from horrid to bad. Either way the defense was the primary reason we lost for one reason or another.

I think you're right, but if it turns out we're nothing more than an average football team this year, then this will be the game we point to.

they have been like this for a while .just when they play red zone defense and when the offense puts up points , it became masked. ours is more of a 'scheming' defense where they kinda 'lay a puzzle' so to speak for the opponents to make mistakes instead of forcing the issue with lot of blitzes etc. so you see a lot of completions and drives always on the pats.

I am not arguing that the Defense isnt more to blame for sundays loss becuase I feel the De was more to blame.

I think that neither unit did much of anything to bail the other out. STs tried to bail both out. But I really think in yesterdays case that the De really made it tough for the offense to do anything when the offesne showed a slight sign of life (which was more caused by Hobbs return) the de could not and end of game.

I really don't think the defensive problems had much of anything to do with the offense. Please remind me of all the short fields the defense had to cope with on route to giving up 38 points? Perhaps it was the terrible special teams play (nope; best special teams play I've seen in years). Perhaps they forgot to line up Matt Cassell as an inside LB or a cornerback? (Nah - although he may have looked better than at QB. )

No, the defense stunk it up all on their own. No QB pressure, only occasionally stopping the run and never stopping the tight end down the seam routes.

Well, if the defense plays with a lead the Dolphins don't get to run as much and become more predictable. The OP is right about how one part of the team affects the other. Playing with a lead or even better a big lead helps defenses tremendously.

Hard to tell because TV does not give a wide angle, but, to me, this season the safety play has been abysmal.

So you really dont think that if the offense could have scored a TD in the first 15 min. of the game that would not have cahnged things or maybe if they had turned one of the 2 field goals in the second quarter into a TD.

Game went we get stuffed they get stuffed we go down and maybe get hosed by the ref and instead turn it over. They go score. End fisrt quarter. Right now hard to say the de is completely at fault for being down but they have not played great. Now here is where the offense could have bailed them out but instead trade FGs for scores. 21-6 at halftime and neither side did anything to help the other side prevent this. When you see you de is having a tough day that puts more pressure on your offense (thats where complementary football comes in) and if the offense can respond to the added pressure that can than take some of the pressure off of the de.
