Thanks for keeping us updated OTG. It's going to come down to Indy or Miami. Ariz/St. L play each other this week and again later. Have games against Seattle. Both of those teams should win 3 minimum. It's hard to see wins on the sked for Indy and Miami. Miami has been snakebit by mistakes late in games. But are playing competitively. Indy should be ashamed of themselves. They have quit. And, will not win a game. Peyton Manning should tell them to draft Luck and demand a trade.

You're very welcome, sir, and thank you for your updates and contributions to our Thread. The Mocks you bring in add considerably more Flavor than the simple Draft Order bit that I or you ~ or anyone, for that matter ~ updates.

I hope you're wrong about Indy. I've gone on record as saying that I expected a turnaround...But if they have indeed irretrievably descended into mediocrity ~ as opposed to that 1 year David Robinson thing the Spurs did, a while back!! ~ then perhaps it would be BETTER to see them get the #1...

Injuries are one thing. You can't replace a superstar in the nba. But, football is the ultimate team game. Inexcusable to fold like Indy has. I'm a believer in Karma. I hope they go 0-16 now. Draft Andrew Luck. Their hero Peyton Manning will be *****in and moanin. Even if he doesn't demand a trade. It ain't gonna be pretty. Let Luck sit on the bench for 2-3 years before the situation becomes untenable. It might be fun watching. An, aging team losing talent. HOF QB whom they're stuck with and a superstar in waiting on the bench. Luck might turn Miami around pretty quickly and we'd have to face him 2x per year. Other than an NFC team, I think watching Polian handle that hand grenade might actually be entertaining.

This Saints #1 draft pick is getting a little more interesting these days

Excellent work, man. I picked the Saints to go to the Super Bowl a couple months back, but I would be MORE than happy to see them make me look like a fool!! :D

I was SURE that the Raiders were gonna fall on their faces, this year, so they're ALREADY making me look like a fool...But the Palmer trade does, indeed, bring hope, doesn't it?? :D

Great work on both of these, sir. Thanks, mon.

Spend the first three rounds only on defense and forget about drafting a CB, RB or any other specialty position. Use the first 2 rounds and draft for the defensive front seven and use the third round for a hard hitting safety!
1. LB – Zach Brown – UNC...tackling machine with incredible speed and reminds me of a Willie McGinest. Once he puts weight he will be a NFL force. For example, his stats from a game against Wake Forest...tallied nine tackles, an interception, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
1. DE/OLB – Courtney Upshaw – Alabama...hard hitting physical player or DE – Vinny Curry-Marshall.
2. DT – Jerrell Worthy-Michigan State....may be the best DT in the draft
2. DE/DT - Melvin Ingram – SC...produces results and can cover or S – Mark Barron-Alabama who is a hard hitter with terrific instinct.
3. T.J. McDonald- S-USC....big and physical safety or C - Webster - OSU. The Pats should not pick a Center any higher. If not Webter is not available pick Alabama's starting center William Vlachos.

Why no WR in the top 3 rounds. Get a solid Front 7 and Tom Terrific will get better field position and can score at will.

While I don't roll with you on your individual choices, I absolutely LOVE your thinking, Brother!! :rocker:

The direct impact that a Tenacious D can have on that team's Offensive potency is nearly as egregiously overlooked, by most, as the impact a Ball Control Offense can have...on that team's D!!

Oh how things have changed over the last week. Bodden being cut, Dowling to IR, the loss to Pittsburgh and the ensuing panic, it seems our draft priorities have changed. As I posted in another thread, I believe a lot of the defensive issues are scheme related, brought about by a lack of confidence in the secondary. That’s up to BB to fix and I don’t think changing personnel will automatically fix that. However, this team does have some obvious deficiencies, especially on defence that changes in personnel, especially through the draft can address.

I don’t think we need to panic though, because with Wilfork, Mayo and hopefully McCourty and Chung, we have the cornerstones to build the defence around at every level. What I think we need is a combination of role players to give the team greater depth and versatility, and playmakers to make the team more explosive both offensively and defensively. Whether we play a base 3-4 or 4-3 I don’t think it really matters too much. I think we will play a hybrid defence that requires players to fit both.

Trades
1st for 2nd + 3rd + 6th
2nd for 3rd + 3rd
3rd for 4th + 4th
Hoyer for 5th + 2013 2nd
(One thing to keep in mind when looking at Hoyer’s trade value is all of the top QB prospects in the 2012 draft are underclassman. While Luck will almost certainly declare and be the #1 pick, I think there is a decent chance we could see Barkley and Landry Jones stay in school and battle for the top spot in 2013. If this happens Hoyer’s trade value would increase greatly.)

Picks

1. OLB- Courtney Upshaw- Alabama

Upshaw is elite against the run, a solid pass rusher, plays in the SEC under Saban and has experience playing 3-4 OLB. I don’t think you could ask for any more from a prospect. He doesn’t have the ideal measurables but I don’t really care. I think he is the best fit for this system out of any of the potential OLB’s in recent years. If he is available even close to the Saints pick I would make a move up to get him. Unfortunately I think he could easily go top 15 and be well out of reach. If that is the case then I would look to move down and go after Whitney Mercilus from Illinois, Brandon Jenkins from Florida State or Vinny Curry from Marshall.

2a. FS- TJ McDonald- USC

This is my binkie for the 2012 draft. McDonald would instantly come in and give the Pats secondary a presence which they are desperately lacking. He would add size and athleticism at the back, with the ability to play the deep centre fielder role or down in the box. I think matched with Chung, this could be one of the elite safety tandems in the NFL. McDonald has the size to match up well against TE’s, the athleticism to cover the slot and the attitude to make WR’s think twice about going over the middle. He has been called for quite a few fouls this year but I don’t think he is a dirty player, he just plays the game hard and aggressive. I truly think that TJ McDonald is the kind of playmaker this defence needs at the back. I currently have him with a mid-1st round grade, but it seems no one else does, so I think he will be a steal at the top of the 2nd.

2b. DE/OLB- Devin Taylor- South Carolina

The Pats really need to find a way to pressure the QB rushing only 4 guys and this is the spot where I would look for that playmaker at OLB after grabbing a 3 down OLB in round 1. Ideally I would like to take Vinny Curry here, but I don’t think he lasts this long, so I take a chance on a guy with huge upside. Devin Taylor isn’t physically ready to be a star in the NFL, but he certainly has the potential. Whether it’s a 3-4 or 4-3 front, I think Taylor could develop into a disruptor against the pass and the run.

3a. WR- Juron Criner- Arizona

This pick isn’t a reaction to the Steelers game; I’ve had WR as a need and a high pick in each of my mock drafts since the start of 2010. I was hoping that Ocho Cinco would be that outside threat that we need, but its painfully obvious he isn’t the answer. Originally I had Dwight Jones from UNC as this pick, but I doubt he is a guy BB goes after. A guy that I think is much more likely is Juron Criner out of Arizona, who I think would fit really well into this offensive scheme. He’s got great size, athleticism and is great after the catch. He is a very good deep threat and has the size and physicality to go and get the ball down the field. The thing I like most about Criner is he does everything fast, even though most draft “experts” believe he has below average speed for the position. I think he can be the physical, big play WR on the outside that the Pats need. If he was more consistent I think he would be a 1st rounder.

3b. CB- Donnie Fletcher- BC

With Leigh Bodden being cut and durability issues surrounding Ras-I Dowling, CB is obviously a need. Although there are some talented players available at the top of the draft, I don’t think it would be smart investing even more premium picks into that position. Donnie Fletcher is a guy out of BC that I really like as a fit for the current defensive scheme because he plays in a similar one at BC. Fletcher is a talented off man/soft zone corner that does a good job of keeping the ball in front of him and not allowing big plays. Like the Pats though, BC plays extremely conservative coverage, so I think that hurts his stock for other teams. On the Pats however I think he shows the ability to do a lot of the things they will ask of him. With his size, length and athleticism, I also think he has the potential to be a decent press man corner, but he just hasn’t got the experience there at the moment. He won’t be a superstar but I think he is the kind depth and role player that could really help this team.

3c. S/LB- Kenny Tate- Maryland

I don’t think Kenny Tate has the athleticism to be a full time safety or the size to be an every down LB. What I do think Tate could excel in is being a situational player and special teamer that could help mask some of the issue the Pats defence has. One of the biggest issues this season, especially on 3rd down has been the coverage of the LB’ers. This is where I think Tate could be most effective. Bulk him up a bit to about 235lbs and play him as a coverage LB and specialist nickel defender. He won’t be a starter or a superstar, but I think he could be a key player in fixing the defensive issues on 3rd down.

4a. CB- Trumaine Johnson- Montana

After taking a safe, zone CB in round 3, I would take a chance on a high risk/reward CB in the 4th. Trumaine Johnson has about as much upside as any CB in this draft, but character and level of competition issues hurt his stock. He is immature and has off field issues, but he has a ton of talent and a boat load of potential. He is a talented press man corner that could add versatility to the secondary in terms of scheme. With both Fletcher and Johnson you add some size, as well as the ability to play both zone and press man coverage depending on the situation. That versatility is what we are desperately missing with this predictable, uninspired defence.

4b. TE- Michael Williams- Alabama

While the offence for the most part has looked pretty good this year, I think adding a 3rd TE is a need in the offseason. Williams is one of the better blocking TE’s in this draft and he has some untapped potential as a pass catcher. He’s coached by Saban, plays in the SEC and is a big part of both Trent Richardson’s and Mark Ingram’s success. A really good, solid pick.

4c. DT- Marcus Forston- Miami

I know a lot of people won’t like this pick and really don’t like Forston at all, but at this stage I think he is a steal. He’s isn’t a fit as a base 3-4 DE but I think he could play a key role as a sub rusher at 3tech in 4 man fronts. Part of the Pats defensive issues, especially on third down, is their inability to get to the QB with only 4 guys. Forston is quick, athletic, agile and has a ton of upside as an interior pass rusher, he just hasn’t put it all together yet. He has a long injury history, but at the end of the 4th round I would take a risk on his potential. From what I’ve heard he is a really good kid and an extremely hard worker, so I think he has a chance to make it. He is out for the rest of the year with injury so his stock is low, and he could still go back to Miami for his senior season. If he does, another guy that interests me here is Kawann Short from Purdue.

5. RB/WR/KR- Jeff Demps- Florida

The fastest player in college football and potentially the fastest player in the NFL, Jeff Demps is the definition of a playmaker. Although he has some durability issues, I would take a chance on Demps and see what BB can do with him. Whether it is as a RB, WR or KR, Demps would add some explosiveness.

6. DL- Tony Jerod-Eddie- Texas A&M

Another raw, high upside athlete on the D-Line. He’s a good pass rusher and has the potential to be a starter in the NFL if he can clean up his technique. He’s got the height and length the Pats look for on a 3-4 DE, but he needs to add a little more bulk to improve against the run in the NFL.

UDFA- NT- Asa Chapman- Liberty

A monster of a man with major character issues, but worth the risk as an UDFA. At 6'6" 375lbs, he's suprisingly athletic for his size and could suprise some people.

OTG if you would do the honors my friend.

I doubt Kenny Tate will be in the 2012 draft based off of this article where it states he is seeking a redshirt for this year so he can come back and play for the Terps in 2012.

So we'll have to wait until 2013 to draft him.

It's true, of course, that whether or not he comes out is uncertain, but that's by no means an accomplished fact...And all Mocks are doubly speculative, in any case, when it comes to anyone not a Senior.

Just pointing that out. Many are probably unaware of Tate's situation, so you have done us all a service to bring this up, for which I thank you, sir.

Simply a tremendous Work, Brother Wifork.

LOVE the multiple Trade Downs.

My favorite Pick of yours, of course, is Asa "Mile Wide" Chapman. :D

In fact ~ while I'll have to reserve judgment until I know more about this kid ~ I may have to shamelessly add him to my OWN Mock...paying appropriate Royalties to you, of course, sir. ;)

Yo Wilfork#75. Stop stealing my draft. I had Taylor, McDonald, Tate, and Demps all in mine :p

Shame that Tate probably won't declare. He seems like an ideal 3rd safety in the big nickel, so the sooner Belichick can draft him, the better.

I have absolutely no shame in admitting I stole Jeff Demps from you. I needed an explosive playmaker towards the end and he was the best guy. I will also happily admit that I stole Devin Taylor from Ochmed earlier in the year, although he is sort of my backup plan if Vinny Curry isn't available at that spot (which he probably won't be). To be honest I didn't even know about Kenny Tate's situation, so I might have to look at another big safety like Ray Ray Armstrong or George Iloka, or an undersized LB like Sean Spence or Lavonte David to fill that role.

TJ McDonald is all mine though and he has been my binkie since I first watched tape on him before the season started. He's not a Da'Quan Bowers level binkie, but I really want this guy on the team.

I thought you would like him. When I was doing some research on the late round/UDFA D-lineman, I saw 6'6" 375lbs and thought this guy is gonna be on OTG's binkie list. He does have some MAJOR character issues though (cocaine arrest), but from what I've been able to dig up he seems like he has a shot to make it in the NFL.
