Why The Pats Believe In Josh McDaniels, And You Should Too

You're cherry-picking like crazy.

McDaniels was horrible in St. Louis (last-ranked offense in the entire NFL) when he wasn't the GM and was only the offensive coordinator. So compare apples to apples, KC to St Louis. The talent on that St Louis squad was not dramatically worse than what Weiss had when he arrived in KC. Weiss did a great job in KC turning that offense around. Look at the season he put together compared to the KC offensive seasons both prior and after he left.

Todd Haley was a terrible HC and he clashed with Weiss, which is both why Weiss lost playcalling and also why Weiss left after that season (and you saw the entire KC offense fall apart under Haley after Weiss left).

Also, I don't think Weiss' criticism was ever that he was too predictable, if anything he fell too much in love with creative plays and liked to make non-predictable calls especially on 3rd downs, which infuriated some fans for why he got cute on 3rd and short situations.

As for another poster's comment, the Patriot defense was top-ranked in both 2006 and 2007. It became mediocre to horrible after that especially after the loss of its defensive core players, but the defense in 2006 and 2007 was excellent. Both of those seasons did not end due to the defense.

This coming from one cherry picker to another.

So even though the Chief's offense was average at best, it was really great because Weis battled with Haley. It really was the best offense in the league.

Comparing McDaniels in St. Louis to Weis in KC is not apples to apples because they did not have the same personnel. The year McDaniels was the OC of the Rams, he lost his best WR early in the season with no legitimate other receiver on the roster (They traded for Brandon Lloyd a third of the way into the season and he still led the team in receptions, yards, and TDs). And Bradford was injured for most of the season and a third of the season had such stellar QBs as AJ Feeley and Kellen Winslow under center.

And yes, the talent was dramatically worse than what Weis had in KC with Dwayne Bowe, Matt Cassel, and Jamaal Charles.

And yes, the Pats defenses were good in 2006 and 2007. But what does that have do with anything? I am talking about the best defense in Patriots history (2003) carrying an offense that was mediocre to 14-2 and to a Super Bowl win.

The defense helped to carry the offense in 2006 with the worst receiving corp that Brady has ever had in his career yet, they still performed better than the offense in 2003. The 2006 offense was 12th in yards (335.6 YPG) and 7th in points (24.1 PPG) and was 6th in 3rd down percentage (42%). The 2003 offense was 17th in yards (314.9 YPG), 12th in points (21.8 PPG), and 15th in 3rd down percentage (37%). So even with lesser talent, the 2006 offense outperformed the 2003 offense.

And how can you bring the 2007 offense into the discussion of comparing to how the defense had to carry the offense into the playoffs? You are talking about what might have been the best offense in league history. If anything, that offense carried the defense even though the defense was still good.

And Weis was as predictable McDaniels. He absolutely loved the fullback draw on third downs. He other tendencies like anyone else. McDaniels, on the other hand, gets far too much criticism for his so called predictable play calling.

maverick04 even after all these years, your game hasn't gotten any better.
