Before the draft I thought these were the Pats biggest needs...
1. #1 cornerback
2. #2 receiver
3. Quickness and youth at RB
4. Pass rusher at OLB
5. Return specialist

The fact that the Pats addressed #2 and #3 on Day 1, and Seattle drafted Kelly Jennings in the 1st rd, and Ty Law was seen in Boston shopping with his family prior to the draft, suggests the Pats met need #1 prior to the draft and kept it quiet in order to deceive everyone on draft day. I look forward to LBer help and a return specialist on Day #2. I now believe Vrabel will move back to OLB, and I believe KR specialist TJ Rushing from Stanford is a strong possibility late in Day 2.

I saw things about the same as you but I would throw kicker in there somewhere and possibly some O-Line depth. But I had the priorities about the same as you. Even though I like the Texas TE with Graham and Watson both so young and good I didnt see the need. But they always claim to take the best talent available. I think thye could have waited and taken a TE late rthat was more of a blocker. /shrug

Plus, Seattle took a cornerback.

Yeah, whatever happens now, there will be short money for Law. THere were a LOT of DBs taken Day One. For anyone to taek Law now they would have to feel they are in superbowl contention and need DB help for this year. I doukbt anyone is going to give Law teh multi-year big singing bonus contract he wants.

The question is: will he swallow his pride and come back to NE. We certainly have the cap room this year to give him a one-year deal of 2-3 mil.

Whatever happens, I doubt it will be soon. Ty will want to wait to the end just in case some team loses its top CB in training camp injury, and BB will wait until Law's price comes down. Shouldn't matter. It isn't like Law needs training camp or instruction in BB's defense. All he needs is to be told to stop free-lancing like he did with the Jets, piling up stats at the expense of team defense.

Law tought 6.5M per year for 4 years was an insult. Now he'll play for 2-3M? Don't think so. I think he'd retire first.

I don't know why they didn't pick a CB, but we have 3 and 7 safeties (Scott, G. Scott, T. Jones, Wilson, Harrison, Hawkins, Sanders). With Wilson able to play CB. Only reason to really pick a good CB is for when Samuels leaves next year.

The fact is, that is a pretty good bet.

This can not be the way Ty hoped or the Poston's thought his Free Agency would work out.

But in the end it would be the best thing for Ty. If he returns to the Pats, he will end up in the HOF.
