[On tonight's episode of Unsolved Mysteries, we journey back to April 2006, when a 21-year old wide receiver out of Florida, a school notorious for its draft busts at the position, joined the 3-time Super Bowl Champions...]

Many of you may not have heard of this fellow. To refresh your memory, he was a second round pick of the New England Patriots in 2006, a pick they acquired via trade. Believe it or not, he was chosen a handful of picks ahead of the Packers' Greg Jennings, yet Jackson was considered by many to be a steal where he was drafted. Before the draft, Jackson visited the Patriots, who were impressed enough to eventually draft him.

At the time, he was expected to go in the 15-20 pick range in the first round, ahead of where the Pats were drafting, 21. By the evening of Draft Day 1, we were loving this draft.

Still, a few days after John Mark Karr entered American lexicon, fans began to get concerned as Jackson was out of training camp with a hamstring injury, and also spent most of August on the Active/PUP list.

By the beginning of the 2006 season, Jackson was reportedly acting a fool at the Patriots' annual kickoff gala in the now-famous Tom Casale/PatsPsychos.com debacle (for the record, Casale and PatsFans have since reconciled their differences, but not all the facts have come out, and likely will never).

As Jackson opened the season with speculation he wasn't committing a full effort to the team, his behavior seemed to be overblown, yet with Doug Gabriel on the way out, and Jabar Gaffney yet to emerge, the Pats were engaged with trade talks with the Raiders for Randy Moss, and more dirt emerged on Jackson. Jackson finally came off the injury report, but his involvement in the offense was still limited. As the games flew by, there were more posts prognosticating that this will be the week Chad Jackson breaks out than this poster feels like searching for and linking.

In fact, after the Pats' dismal ending to the 2006 season in Indy, it slowly came to light that he had suffered a torn achilles in that loss. Days after, PatsFans was was undecided on whether to trade (one usually great poster said he'd be disgusted with such a decision) for a wide receiver who, less than a year later, would break an NFL record wearing Patriot blue. The Pats did end up trading for Moss, and that created a log jam at the position.

Eventually, Jackson was back on the Active/PUP list. This round of missed training camp practices, however, led to his being placed on the Reserve/PUP, knocking him out for a good chunk of the season. Meanwhile, another Patriots wide receiver pulled up lame with a hamstring injury of his own, leading one one much-maligned Boston sports personality to say Moss was "dogging it", and rumors to surface that Moss wouldn't make the opening roster. But, Moss wasn't the only one rumored to be cut. Our friend Chad was in danger of that happening, too.

Jackson was eventually activated, but only saw spot special teams duty as a kick returner in the games that he was active for.

Now, it is April 2008. Jackson had been with the team for almost two years...and has done nothing.

In next week's episode, we will interview ChadJacksonFan, the PatsFans member well known for supporting the Hoover High alum who has practiced three times in two training camps with the team.

Until then, remember to ask yourself:

    Just who is "Chad Jackson?"

Chad Jackson injured in training camp.
Chad Jackson injured in pre-season game.

Maybe now that I just posted that - they won't happen.

I still like Chad Jackson and believe in his potential. Maybe I just like lost causes. But I'm willing to give him another year before cutting the cord.

He will be taken under the wing of Randy Moss, will realize this is his last chance to make a mark with this franchise.
Train his but off with Brady Moss and Welker, become the number 2 by the third regular season game my honest hope and prediction.

I sure would liked to have seen Graham become a great receiver. I sure would have loved to see Bethel run good routes and torch defenders. I would be ecstatic to see Chad Jackson be a regular contributor to this team.

I think this is his year to shine. He HAS to stay healthy, if he is injured one more time **** it, too injury prone.

Chad Jackson doesn't even own a Chad Jackson jersey.

He was going to buy one, but then he realized that he is always injured and opted for a Wes Welker one.

To be injury prone, one usually has to get small recurring injuries. Jackson has had 2 injuries. His hamstring, which was never fully healed from prior to the combine he participated in and his ACL, which was hurt during kick coverage during the ACFFG. How is that injury prone?

You don't come back in 6 months from an ACL and be fully healthy. Even Jerry Rice, who did, ended up blowing it out again.

Maybe people look at it differently.

When an NFL player is always injured, regardless of the number of injuries, i consider that to be "injury prone".

He's always injured. He's never healthy. Whether it's 2 major injuries or 17 minor ones, it's irritating and he's injured and not playing.

Yeah I'm just trying to be as optimistic as I can be.
I was elated when we traded up and drafted him I was torn between Jennings, Jackson and I think Marshall was in that draft.
Jackson has all the physical attributes you could ask for.
Now he just needs half of Welkers heart, and the durability of a Randy Moss and we have a winner!

Okay guys, I havent' posted anything yet just because I dind't want my first post to be about something like this but all you guys do is continually beat on this kid. We all saw this kid's potential in the first year and than he blew out his ACL in the AFCG, i fail to see how this makes the kid injury prone. Than if we're looking at the current wide recievers on our roster, RM, Wes, Jabar, and than Aiken, well that mkaes Chad Jackson at worst our fourth receiver right now and I will go on record and say that by the end of the season he will be starting with Moss and Wes will be our slot guy with Chad and Randy on the outside. If you want to talk about injury prone players, let's look no further than Benjamin Watson who is always injured. Chad gets a bad rap on here because most of you posters expect every Pioli and Belichick draftpick should be counted on to immiedately start and sometimes that's just not fair to the player. Remember when he was drafted, he was the youngest player in th leaque and even now he's only 22. By the end of this year, you'll all be saying how great chad jackson is and that you never doubted him. But nearly all of you do, just remember that.

Preach Preach I hope your right!
I don't want this to be another PK Sam!
He is incredibly young people forget about that with Moss mentoring him and he has to be itching to play, we should see at worst a Javon Walker clone at best a young Randy Moss!
    C Jack and Moss?
    Alright!
If i'm wrong i will eat these words and if he is traded or cut, or ends up the next chris henry on Americas most wanted I will never get hyped for a rookie receiver ever again!

He's injury prone because he is always injured.

I hope you are Chad Jackson. In that case, you aren't injury prone (im saying this to boost your confidence and kiss your butt) and i hope you have a great season. And i also like your nick name you've made for yourself.

Just think - he's spent 12 months with Randy Moss and Wes Welker. The kid should have learned a lot.

Unfortunately for you, Keegs, this just isn't FACT.

He was recovering from a Torn ACL that occured late January 2007. That is a 12-18 month process. So for anyone to have expected him to contribute during 2008, that is just not realistic. Catastrophic injuries are just not the fault of the player. There is very little you can do, excercise wise, to prevent your ACL from being torn.

So, to say he is "always injured' is just downright BS.

How can it be another PK Sam? Sam was a 5th round pick who has attitude issues that the Pats thought they could fix. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

That being said, CJack needs to have a good training camp and push Gaffney and Washington for playing time. Its going to be hard to replace Gafney as the #2 right out of the box, but if anyone has the athletic talent to do so, its CJack. Whether or not he does, is an entirely different story.

it isn't downright B.S. to say that.

Is he usually healthy? no he isn't.

He's always injured. Because he's injured.
