Where is Seau?

Everything that JMarr said is correct.

Special teams may be a third of the game, but this is not a three-platoon league. There are two platoons and some specialists. You would never keep a non-specialist who just plays special teams. Otherwise you would have positions like "Gunner" on the roster.

In truth, every ST player is actually from one of the two platoons (offense/defense). Larry Izzo is a linebacker who happens to play all his snaps on Special Teams. Devin Hester is a wide receiver who happens to play all his snaps on Special Teams.

JMarr's original point is spot on. If the coaches don't feel comfortable putting Izzo on the field as a linebacker then he gets cut. No matter how good he is on special teams.

Well, you're both wrong. However, I am sure that won't stop you from commenting on a subject you clearly do not understand.

NFL teams do routinely keep players that have no other REAL position than ST ace. Izzo is a perfect example. When is the last time Izzo played a snap of Defense? The Playoff game against Denver?

Special Teams lose games. They cost Playoff spots. They get coaches fired. Any NFL HC that undervalues Special Teams will soon be unemployed.

Back to the topic of this post. BB has been in touch w/Junior, from his press conf today. Doesn't really tell us much but he could be a consideration after TC.

Q: I know you are at the limit on your roster with 80 players but have you spoken to Junior Seau?
BB: Yeah. I have spoken to him. We are at 80 and if we make any roster moves we will let you know as soon as we can. We are where we are right now. If anything changes, we will let you know when it changes. Really what we are trying to concentrate most on now is just getting our team ready for Thursday night, pulling things together and trying to keep improving every time we go out on the practice field. We have a lot of guys that are doing that and you want to keep working with them because they are getting better on a daily basis.

Only way he is back if injuries happen.

We know, but they don't just happen to play there, they're there for a reason. Hester is a return specialist and when the Bears re-signed him they were thinking about his ability to change games from special team situations, no doubt about it. They even drafted him for special teams alone.

If as I do NOT expect, Seau, an aged ILB comes back without Patriot ILB injuries that will NOT be a good thing. That would mean that #1 pick Mayo and FA Hobson aren't playing as well as a nearly 40 yr old. Not good.

If Seau comes back, it will mean than he is a better #4 ILB than Alexander or Guyton.

I would have like to see him at camp. I'm still in shock over the final 2:30 minutes of the Super Bowl and maybe the football gods didn't like Jr. & T.B. celebrating like they did before the whistle blew...?

Get Junior Seau in camp NOW! and get him ready for the season...

I may take some flack for this Seau comment but... With all due respect to Teddy Bruschi. Seau has more left in his tank than Teddy. I say this just on a physical standpoint. What I noticed a lot last year was Bruschi trying to reach out and arm tackle. He just wasn't getting to the spot fast enough for a better tackling opportunity.
I'd like to see Jr. back this season in a situational role. & Teddy in more of situational role too.

...Likely surfing in Hawaii.

With training camp under way and no sign of Seau, is it safe to assume that he is done? Great career, but unfortunate that he did not win a SB.

seau is just waiting for training camp to end. then he'll waltz in before the first game. he's probably avoiding tc.

Whatever he's doing, Bill is aware of it and is OK with it.

Whatever he's doing

Did you read the posts a few pages back...I and another poster saw Seau on Best Damn Sports Show and he said he was still recovering from shoulder surgery, He talks to BB daily, and hopes there is a role for him when he is healthy.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but yes I saw the post and heard Bill say that he has talked to Jr.

The fact the Bill and Jr. have talked leads me to believe that he's coming back. I think that if that door was shut, Bill - when asked - would have said Jr's not an option this year.

I agree he's recuperating from surgery and living in his surfing/zen Seau universe.

The way you said whatever he is doing made me think you were wondering what he was up to like you didn't read those comments which said he what he was up to. Waiting to be healthy.

Gotcha. I knew that, I was refering to Surfing, Working out, relaxing, reading Harry Potter, or whatever he's doing. :)

Sitting on a beach earning twenty percent...

So far in training camp, Jerod Mayo has been a quick learner but

Victor Hobson has not. If Hobson does not catch on to the system

in the next couple of weeks, the call will be made to Seau

I am not sure Hobson is close to the point where they would just replace him. If it got really bad though he is only on a one year deal. But I think that would constitute more than just struggling to pick up the system.

IMO I think they wait until they have made all the cuts and until teams have filled out their practice squads to sign Seau, that will help to protect the guy you move to the practice squad by making it a little harder for the opposing team to crunch the numbers to fit the guy in. Plus he said he isnt healthy yet.
