What people don't seem to understand is we're not the only ones who think - "let's stop the run and make Wilson throw to win".
It's clear that's what the whole NFL thinks of Mac and the Pats offense too. And it's worked the first 2 games.
The Jets have the D Front to easily stop our run without stacking the box. So, it's going to have to be on Mac and the short pass game to move the ball. The question that hasn't been answered yet, is if our D Front can stop anyone's run game - when it matters.

the irony is very rich...we have an entire thread dedicated to how much the Jets suck...yet we have people in this thread boasting about how much Bill the Coach "owns" Zach Wilson, QB of said suck team.
so are we at the point where Patsfans thump their chest if/when they manage to beat the NYJ?
Today's game is sink or swim, lose today, pretty forget about the playoffs. It's 5 or 6 wins a draft pick in the early teens.
The path to actually having a playoff pulse is, obviously, win today, beat New Orleans and Oakland (probably lose to Dallas) and you're 3-3 with buffalo at home....most assuredly a game bill the Coach will win, given he's the greatest of all time, no?

The Jets have a big handicap. Their QB sucks. But the talent around him is superior to what the Patriots have around Mac.

The key? Get out ahead. Imagine the Jets behind in the fourth quarter with INT prone ZW trying to lead a comeback?

That’s asking for a miracle if one is a Jets fans.

The revealing part of this very odd Corral & Grier, backup QB saga, is that it must make Zappe realize he is not the desired backup.
They had to sign 2 QB's onto the 53 roster in the last 3 weeks. Those spots are extremely coveted, and now a brand new bottom-dweller in Grier has to be on the 53 for the next 3 weeks. Meaning we'll have 3 QB's when we only had 2 last year with Zappe as a rookie. That can't bode well. And it's quite disturbing as a backup plan anyway. I don't think Grier has shown much to be Plan C or D for QB2.
Grier and Zappe are smaller QB's, not very athletic, played in very college-level offenses, and have very little experience in the NFL.

The tactic to load the box and force Mac to throw over the top has been used against the Pats in every game since the end of his rookie year. To become our franchise QB, Mac needs to be able to consistently make teams pay for leaving the deep part of the field unprotected. The reality is that this is a team weakness starting with the OL giving enough time to run deep routes and WR talent that can get open and catch the ball. Until that time the playbook is limited and so are the number of wins. Today is an important game for sure.

BOB was just spouting bs to not throw BB under the bus. It was pretty obvious he was benched for the fumble. God forbid they actually just admit it.
Imagine a world where both can be true

We had three last year. Hoyer was on the team and the was "injured" the rest of the year after Green Bay.

I guess if you aren’t going to have three of your top four CB’s for a game this would be the game to have it happen.

This seems like it must be more than the fumble. He might be our best YAC receiver. I think he is but, there isn't enough catches to prove it.
Benching him last game and leaving him off the roster this game seems extreme for what could arguably be considered more of a good defensive play than Pop's fault. Too extreme for me unless there is something else going on.

This is BB's MO when it comes to rookies fumbling.

The Pats stopped their own run in the first two games. There wasn't a strong commitment to the run and the offensive line couldn't open holes. right now, teams would rather see the Pats try to run the ball than pass. The Pats' passing game is far stronger than the running game. Stevenson has a 2.3 YPC average and a longest run of 12 yards. You take away that 12 yard run and he has 63 yards in two games and a 2.4 YPC.

In fact, the Dolphins didn't even care about the run. They pinned their ears back and rushed Mac Jones for most of the game. They generated pressure on Mac on 38.3% of the passes which is pretty high especially for a team that has a horrible pass rush and their best pass rusher didn't play.

  • Defensive pressure rate: Patriots 15.1%, Dolphins 38.3%
