I can never get enough mock drafting. Haven't really brushed up on available rookies yet but I would seriously doubt in BB would take a first round RB. Definitely need to replace Morris and Taylor very soon but not in 1st. If they can find 1-2 impact D players they will be SB favorites for years to come.

I do think he will hope to get the DE/OLB he covets but we all know he won't reach for anyone. Have been watching B Carter for a while but injury is concerning. I think Cunningham has shown flashes and with another year in system could be a very good OLB. Still need someone to challenge Ninkovich and add depth.

Not sure if there is a top S in this year's draft but Meriweather doesn't seem to be a BB type of player (too undisciplined). I think they will look to replace him.

If we are to assume BB does trade Meriweather, what about moving Arrington to safety? With Bodden and Wilhite returning, along with (hopefully) more development by Butler, he may not see much of any playing time at corner. If he could make the switch to safety then the Pats could focus on other positions in the draft. I know you would prefer someone bigger at safety, but look at his play on special teams; that's what one would expect from a safety, not a cornerback.

    Prince falling to 20?

Forget DE. Give me Prince at 15 and Justin Houston at 32 and I'd be ecstatic.

I think switching Arrington to safety deserves its own thread and is an interesting idea.

    Ditto..

His size and the style of his play is compatible with Ed Reed..not saying he has the skill set but the idea of him Chung patrolling the secondary is quite appealing

Plus cb is deep in this draft..think jenkins or harris ..I like Bodden coming back but I want that postion to be stocked and having butler as the slot cb might be the best fit

FYI Ed Reed is 5'11'' 201; Arrington is just 5'9" 192. I think a lot of people overestimate Arrington's size because he does play a lot like a safety.

Returning to the topic at hand...what leaps out at me about that mock draft is the rather random assortment of juniors included. For instance, Marcell Dareus is nowhere to be found, nor Mark Ingram. It kind of renders everything else meaningless.

But just using the names available, I'd take Prince Amukamara happily at #16.

Exactly. And he wouldn't necessarily have to be a CB. He could be a .... wait for it ... FREE SAFETY!

Nfl.com lists him at 5"10 196 ..Reed 5"11 200...not sure which measurements are more accurate

Based on draft-time numbers (typically the only real height reading you ever get), Reed is a legit 5'11" while Arrington has to be verrry generously rounded up to reach 5'10".

I'm not saying he couldn't play safety, but he'd be one of the smallest around -- taller than Bob Sanders, but a lot lighter.

Thanks, I somehow missed that. But Dareus is still a huge missing piece.

he's not on it, very strange. Its hard to undestand, he's one of the best d lineman. I'd take him over Jordan for sure

yes, seems like a huge omission. Also notible is no mention of Cam Newton in first round (and saying at Minn pick #11 - that there are no QB's worthy at this spot).

Also find it hard to believe that at only spots #18 and 20 come the 2nd and 3rd DB's and Prince Amukamara, CB, seems abit low at spot #20.

I wonder how if no CBA before the draft - how it would impact the draft that there would be (as I understand ) NO FA period before the draft. My hypothesis is that it actually could help the Pats 3 picks in 33 as follows:

    1) No FA period before draft means no 'filling of significant holes' on the roster before the draft via free agents. Hence - more filling of holes during draft rather than the 'best person available' approach.

    2) If #1 true, then filling of holes during draft means more teams reaching for offensive skill players in the first round - every team needs a starting QB, a decent RB and a capable LT - could also probably say same for elite CB's. (Most teams have more holes than NEP's - especially at the critical positions of QB, CB and OT's).

    3) So #2 might mean more heavy offensive first round than usual as there are many QB needy teams this year.

    4) Hopefully, my hypothetical run on QB's, OT's , CB's will allow some of the big bodies DE's and better OLB's to fall down the first round into the waiting arms of BB.

But naturally, BB can't resist the value of multiple picks in the later rounds and trades down the Oakland pick into the 2nd round - shattering my dreams of an elite 5 tech DE in the first. :(

in every mock ive seen Demarco Murray isnt taken sooner than the 3rd round, hes a RB on a team with some pretty good RBs already, if anything the depth can be made up in the draft in the late second round. i dont think murray is a 1st rounder, and it is really quite sloppy to pick him there for the pats considering their greater needs.
