My mock using a simulator

This is the shocker draft.

New York Giants offered a tantalizing package including a 2nd round pick this year and next year to move up to #3 and I accepted.

1713789341350.png

To my surprise their target was Nabers and then... Drake Maye lasts all the way to #6! I quickly scoop him up.

Then another small shock, McConkey is available at #34. I don't look the gift horse in the mouth and give Maye his first premium weapon.

Still in the second round and stud receiver Xavier Legette is sitting there at #47. Let's give Maye another weapon!

Ring... Ring... It's the Bengals. They want to move up! We gladly swap #68 for a pair of picks.

1713789501649.png

Finally at #80 we take a 6'5 326 lb left tackle prospect with some promise from Yale in Kiran Amegadjie. Blindside protector acquired!

At #103 we're feeling good about our offense and finally switch to defense to pick up aggressive 6'2, 211 lb safety Jaden Hicks who can play either role in a 2 safety set.

At #115 we grab a 6'4 247 lb playmaking tight end in Cade Stover. Did you know he was a former defensive player who switched over to offense and so has a good understanding of what the defense is trying to do to him? Some have him ranked as high as 3rd best at his position.

#137 has us grabbing Combine riser Mekhi Wingo who had a 95th percentile athletic showing for a 6'1 295 lb DT with a 4.85 40 yard dash and a 1.64 10 yard split. With that explosive speed he's probably more suited as a pass rusher than a run stuffer but this far into the draft we go for upside.

1713789197862.png

So those were my big moves impacting my draft! How did I do?

Is there any scenario where the Patriots trade back to #6 and actually end up with one of Drake Maye or JJ McCarthy?

Would you be happy if this ended up being the Patriots final haul of the 2024 NFL draft?

PS This is the crazy 1st round that unfolded, yielding the above results for us! Vikings moved up to #8 to scoop McCarthy for picks #11, #23, and #232.

Minnesota offered 11 and 23 so I tried it. I basically flipped a coin at 34, McConkey over Leggett. Pleased to see McMillan at 68 and then Sweat all the way down to 103. Limmer was best OC available at 137, setting up Andrews replacement next year. I like Brownlee, and I really can't tell you why, but more often than not, I take him late if he's there. Boyd was BPA at 193, 329 lbs, I like the size. I actually agonized over #231 and settled on the Phil Perry recommended Bub Means.

No safeties, @captain stone ;)

I traded all over the place. I stole picks from Seattle both this year and next year and still landed Drake Maye. Lucky.

I got here by trading from 3 to 4 and from 4 to 5, with the assumption that Daniels went at 2 and I kept trading down by 1 slot till only one of Maye and McCarthy were left, taking small comp as I went. Got good quality for each of the 7 picks.

Do you like McCarty more than Maye?

That's EXACTLY what I do on that sim nearly each & every time, same as on MockDraftDatabase if a better offer doesn't appear... DraftBuzz is more challenging, but on that sim I can throw-in our trash to sweeten the pot... Don't even think about trading-down from #3 at PFN however.

Today's lunch draft. The Chargers offered 5 and 37 for 3, so I snapped that up like candy and still got Daniels. Suamataia and McConkey close out those who say "don't draft out of need", which I completely disagree with. Sanders was the TE who fell to me, Stover was there too, at #68. Carter at #103 was a Bill style pick, 3 time captain, so the guy checks the boxes as far as leadership goes. He could be a locker room leader day one. Dixon at 137 because of reported physicality, my boy Brownlee because I always do. I have been anti double dip QB all season, so I am 100% a hypocrite for taking Milton at 193, and then a future center in Nugent to close it out.

Like it a lot, though my preference would be to add a Day Three RB: Shipley, Guerendo, Laube, Davis, Ali, etc.

I have no problem at all with adding Milton that late. Brissett will probably only be here for a year, so Milton can become the backup or spot starter due to injury. By year four he either takes over if Daniels falters, or becomes trade bait.

The 5 and 37 for 3 seemed like a deal to me. I know everyone is talking "a bag", but to move back 2 spots and pick up an early R2 seemed pretty good. I would not be disappointed if this is how it turned out tomorrow, as long as they get one of the QBs. Obviously, the risk is high when you trade out.

I know. I’m asking which QB you like more. I like Maye and am unsure about McCarthy.

Oops sorry... Yeah I also prefer Maye to McCarthy, but not so much that I would refuse an offer from another team inside the top-10 to move down a couple of spots in exchange for a Day 2 pick this and/or next year and run the risk of losing Maye, same as Steve102's post above.

I’m thinking the report that Wolf like McCarthy is true and he does something along the lines of what you did. I could see JK being on board with that.

My final lunchtime draft. TBH, I don't love it. Maye consistently went #2 to Washington, after refreshing multiple times, I said eff it and took the Giants up on a **** offer and took McCarthy at #6. I am ok with Morgan at #34, and Isaac at #47 has good upside. I passed on the diminutive Tony Franklin and N'keal 2.0 Keon Coleman at #47, settling on Corley at #68 after listening to Phil Perry continue to sing this guy's praises. Binkie T'Vondre was there at #103. Jones has good size at #137, the speedy Guerendo again at #180, followed by Johnson, who at 6'3" has some length for WR. Closed out the mock season with local guy Hergel at #231.

Spent more time on mocks than ever this year, learned a lot. Tonight it counts for real. Let's go!!! Enjoy the show tonight, boys.

So on Discord, lots of rumors floating about, including Maye to WAS and NE taking JJ. I used the ESPN mock sim as users can actually trade down. Before I started the sim, I traded with NYG and then moved to 5 with LAC (NYG took MHJ and Denver moved to 4 for Daniels lol.) Personally I don't think that would work - rumor has it LAC is going after JC Latham - and they could get him at 11 if they make the trade with MIN.
