Well apparently Seattle wanted him bad and we got em. On twitter they're saying they packed up shop after the easley selection. Explains their trade

It is worth noting, however, that this has been said before about Maroney.

But also Mankins and Hightower.

Guys shut up about the wrs. As if there weren't a round 2 and 3 tomorrow. And we could get b Coleman in the 4th. And he's no surf gentlemen

also, the pats could still get the 33rd overall pick from Houston in a mallet package deal. Then we could get ASJ or Lee. Then this board would shut up.

It's the wrong DT. Now we're left to pray for the near-miracle of good health with a player who's already popped both ACLs.
Why are you so convinced he can't come back strong? He already had a good year after the 2011 ACL. He rehabbed well enough from the second ACL to impress in his workouts. The guy is a workout warrior; the knees might be a complete non-factor.

Eh, they could have had that trade all but worked out before the Easley pick too. But if they wanted him, that makes me like it a bit more. They've shown that they know what they're doing in the war room.

I love that Bucannon pick for the Cardinals. What a secondary that could be if he works out.

Though I wanted a weapon for Brady, Easley is a satisfying pick. If he can stay relatively healthy this is an excellent pick and he could be a star player on our defense. Some risk? Yeah. But it is worth it.

"The most impressive skill Easley possess is how quickly he explodes off the line of scrimmage. While Easley is not particularly big for his position, he has great strength and versatility, and he is skilled at shedding blocks.

That explosiveness allows Easley to fire his gaps quickly and easily split double-teams. Even the strongest offensive lines in the SEC had trouble keeping up with Easley’s first three steps, and he caused constant havoc in opposing backfields."

His best attribute is his first step and explosiveness. And he's coming off 2 ACLs. Awesome.

Typical belichick-ean type of pick.....and another complete WHIFF!......They really shouldnt let BB do the drafting at all anymore. All analysts are saying "wow this guy has had double ACL surgeries....tremendous reach ....would have been there in 3rd or even 4th!....great job Bill!

UOTE="condon84, post: 3823077, member: 15168"]Projected in the 3rd and 4th round. Awesome.
i would agree if this was any other round but the first. BB almost always hits with his first round pick

Well, now that Easley is officially a bust, will be be the first first round pick in league history cut the day after he is drafted. No reason to keep him on the roster now since it is a given he will tear both his ACLs in training camp.

So at DT we had a choice between:

High ceiling talent with glass knees (Easley)

or

High ceiling talent that's raw/inconsistent (Hageman)

I still would have preferred the most pro ready WR in the draft. I agree with Deus overall on our draft pick. It's an unneeded risk to take in round 1 of one of the deepest drafts in the last 10 years.

if it's so deep, then why are you complaining? There is still a round 2 tomorrow and the WR class is deeper than the DE/DT class.

FWIW, I'm sure that with the level of investment a 1st rounder commands the team did their homework on Easley. It's also worth noting that BB has taken 4 defensive linemen in the 1st round, three out of the four have gone to pro bowls, one is a hall of famer, one is a team hall of famer, and the last is arguably the best young player on the defense. He doesn't miss on first round DL.

Please post more often.

Easley is a pick I am okay with. He was the best talent on the board. I wish we could have traded back and gotten him but i get the feeling it was not a possibility within the last 7 days. I hate to take a risk on a 1st round pick but 29 is a horrible first round spot. You either need to trade up 10 picks to get a sure thing; pick and take a guy with at a red flag; pick a safe prospect who will start but be only solid not great or trade down and likely get a almost equally talent player 10 spots later.

All options have their benefits and draw backs. I think those for this year they are not good enough right now to win. They need a impact guy or multiple good players. This or trading back i think where i best chance to win this year cause only a "solid starter" would not have been enough and the redflags on guys like Ealy & Hageman were looking kinda big.

I watch every Gator game. He was playing at a top 10 level before the other ACL tear. He also took some good shots on that knee in game action but it held up because of the brace, which he'll now be wearing on the other knee. The Florida defense completely fell apart without him. He was our heart and soul.

I hear you, but it's a gamble on a genuine impact player -- IMO one of only 2 penetrating DLs of that description in this draft.

If it was BB's MO to take these risks in round one and hit on them, I doubt there'd be an issue. However, it's BB's MO to take these risks in round two and miss more often than hit. That's the problem here. He just took what used to be a reliable pick and turned it into a huge question mark, and he didn't have to do that. There were better options available.

At the very best, this is taking Gronk in round 1 instead of round 2. At worst, the Patriots just drafted Ras-I Dowling at #29.

Me too. :p

Sometimes rumors that they love a player mean they love a player. The Pats were consistently said to be interested in Easley.

I'm sorry that Mayoclinic took off, he must be thrilled.
I enjoyed reading mayoclinic's evaluations. What did he say about Easley?

That's a funny report considering it reads like a 2nd round pick. Despite the listed projection. Would be interested who actually wrote it. He isn't a 3-4 pick clearly in the actual draft and that's literally only time I've seen that written about him.

It's not who, it's when. That projection was written before Easley's outstanding workout -- recent writeups all say 2nd with a chance of 1st.

Mayo was all in on a penetrating DT with the Pats' first pick, feeling that was the key missing piece to the defense. I believe a trade up for Aaron Donald his plan A (not feasible, given where Donald went) and Easley at #29 was plan B.
