Re: Lousy Corners

Again, reception totals are great if they lead to yards and scores... but Welker didn't go anywhere. Only getting 32 yards on 6 receptions is terrible. The linebackers and safeties did a great job covering him.

Did you read what I wrote, the same thing you're saying that Welker wasnt a factor because he didnt get any YAC.

Re: Lousy Corners

Actually, it was Wilhite who came on the Corner Blitz that sprang Henderson free for the 75 yard TD. I don't know if Wilhite wasn't supposed to Blitz or if Meriweather was supposed to pick Henderson up. Either way, Meriweather, as the coverage caller, is to blame for that.

As for the 38 yard TD that Wilhite got beat on, that was just a phenomenal pass by Brees.

It was Meriweather who missed his assignment. Wilhite was to blitz and I saw Meriweather point to himself after BB hurdled the D on the sideline.

Re: Lousy Corners

The pressure in the 3-4 needs to come from the LB's which aren't up to the task other than Banta-Cain. I honestly can't remember the last time the Pats tried blitzing Guyton or Mayo, seems like that was something they did a lot more of back a few years ago

Maybe you should watch some games because they had been blitzing Guyton and Mayo on and off for the past 3 or 4 weeks. They didn't blitz a lot tonight.

As for a few years back, no, they didn't blitz a lot. In fact, it was one of the things that people lamented. That the Pats DIDN'T blitz a lot. What they forgot was that the Pats still got pressure.

Re: Lousy Corners

Bodden is a pretty good corner. It's just that the Saints make good corners seem average after getting through with them.

Re: Lousy Corners

You need to get pressure on the QB with your DL to be successful in this league. The Saints got pressure on Brady with only rushing 3 sometimes. The Pats really need a dominate pass rushing D tackle/end

The Saints got plenty of pressure and they don't have anything resembling a "dominate [sic] pass rushing DT/DE".

The Pats need more elite talent on D period. Whether it's a true #1 CB, a dynamic pass-rushing OLB or a studly DE to replace Seymour, they need talent. They have too many good but limited players and too many guys playing in roles that they're not suited for (Wilhite starting when he is best as a slot CB, Banta-Cain playing most downs instead of being a pass-rush specialist, Wright/Green having to be starters).

The good news is that the team is fairly solid up the middle, assuming Wilfork is retained. The ILBS and safeties should need very little in the way of off-season work. The constant turnover at CB and OLB has really hurt though.

Yup, I saw that too.

Not very impressed with Mayo tonight either. He's missed some tackles recently in big games. The Indy game as well during a crucial redzone stand. Sophomore slump or still recovering from injury?

Re: Lousy Corners

AS of now, we have one solid-good corner in Bodden and several young corners with potential, namely Butler. we just need a pass-rusher.

I noticed the miss tackle early on which would have dropped Bell/Thomas for a loss. He still made plenty of tackles this game and he along with Wilfork and maybe Guyton were the only defensive players who showed up

Listen. You truly don't have a clue about the Saints D-line. Sedrick Ellis is a damn good pass rushing DT. Anthony Hargrove, now that he's gotten his act together, is turning into a pretty damn good one as well.

Johnny come lately's like yourself seem to think you know what you are talking about. I have news for you. You don't. The Saints D-line is very similar to the D-line of 2001. Its the sum of the parts being greater than the whole. I know that concept is probably beyond you, but sitting there and crapping on the Saints D-line after they just schooled our O-line isn't too bright.

Fact is that the Pats are in transition. They don't have 4 LBers who can do what they want on a regular basis. They have ONE. Mayo. Thomas, Banta-Cain, Burgess and Woods aren't Vrabel, McGinest, Cox, and Johnson. The Pats need a well rounded group of LBers and they don't have that.

As for the DTs/DEs, they've got a great set. They are just missing that one DE/OLB who can do it all. Rush the passer. Drop into coverage. stand-up against the run. That's what they need. A "one trick pony" pass-rusher isn't what the Pats need.

What games have you been watching? Mayo has been our best defensive/consistant player besides Wilfork the past few weeks...

Thank you, exactly what I was trying to say. Just because the Saints dont have that big name on their DL people automatically assume they arent good.

Yeah you are right. Meriweather was the one who blew that assignment. I wish had DVR so I could go back and double-check. Meriweather broke right for some reason instead of picking up Wilhite's man.

Re: Lousy Corners

Both Burgess and Wilhite were yanked during the game. Woods and Butler came in for them. Wonder how that will work out on the depth chart.

I re-watched it. You sir, are correct. It was Brandon. Something got him looking right, and thats all she wrote.

I'd like to see Butler get some more playing time.

Re: Lousy Corners

Passes Defensed is a better indicator of how a CB/DB is playiing IMO - Revis #1, Bodden firmly in the #5 spot, Assante 9th... Wilhite, despite being in the right spot most of the time, tied @ 108th.

What a difference a week makes. Bodden was labled a stud last week and now lousy this week.

People weren't watching too closely, because it wasn't like he was making unreal catches, Sanchize was WAY off on his throws.
