I liked Weiss offense better than McDanile, but there was a big difference in the teams they coached on. Our linebackers/Db's got old and we didn't have the high draft picks to replace the. Polian rules made us go for the high powered offense which is better during the season than strong defensive teams which rule in the playoffs and we also blew a couple high picks trying to make that transition to offense in Maroney and Jackson.
Look at the turnover ratio in the Weis years. Teams don't maintain great defenses in their prime with no high draft picks, yet we kept winning while essentially transitioning strong defenses from 2004 to 2014, a decade.
Subtract Bruschi, McGinest, Law and Harrison from those Weiss teams and there's a lot of defensive scoring that Pokey Antowain Smith and a couple quick receivers couldn't replace.
As much as i don't like McDaniels and the pass first offense, it kept he team afloat and basically kept a deteriorated defense able to play with a lead.
Not apples to apples at all. We've got the defense now to dominate some games, so i hope McDaniels is successful with a similar approach to weiss.
