Seau Signed

Reading Seau's bio, I am reminded what an incredible career he has had. 12 pro Bowls; 6 times AP first team all pro. How many NFL players, ever, at any position, can say the same? I'm guessing fewer than a dozen.

Still, though, He is 38 years old and has been seriously injured in each of the last three seasons. Shouldn't we have a "plan B"?

We've already upgraded from Banta Cain to a pro bowler in Thomas; worst case we're better off without Seau this year than we were last year.

I hope Plan B is to retain Oscar Lua on the 53 man roster to

develop into a run stuffer. Junior Seau is his idol.

Of the late round choices and UDFA's, I suspect that our favorite is Lua.

We'll certainly do lots of polls. I think that my rosters this early always have zero late picks and zero UDFA's making the squad. This year is no exception. If I picked a roster today, that would be the case. I would keep Mays and put Lua on the Practice Squad. But there is a long way to go, and unfortunately camp busts, camp real injuries, and camp fake injuries.

I hate this move!! Old bones break easily, what more needs to be said. I'd rather have a younger guy. But if this guy helps us and gets himself a ring, I'll be absolutely thrilled for him. Good luck to the guy who wears Willie's number!! :D

Put your arm between a RB's legs from the side at shin level when he's going full steam and see what happens to it. That's what happened to Jr. That said, I don't think his prescence is going to cost us anyone who would make an impact in the near future. None of these guys were drafted high enough to not stick on the PS, if BB wanted to develop them.

im happy with this move, hope he can stay healthy and play well again in 2007.

Watching Seau being escorted off the field that night, still acting like a warrior even though his arm had been turned to jelly, it really made me hop that it would not be the last time he would play in a Patriot's uniform.

He far exceeded anyone's expectations, and even at his advanced age he showed why he is a first ballot Hall of Famer. He is such a fiery guy and a good player, it is good to have him back.

You'll undoubtably get to see him escorted off the field again when he gets injured. If he makes it out of camp without landing on IR it'll be a minor upset.

If it wasn't his arm, it would have been something else. He hasn't played a full 16 game schedule since 2001.

the law of averages are in his side,

Willie was cut. I'm sure he's regretting not being on the Pats, but it was out of his control.

Willie could have come back for less money, but Cleveland and Romeo enticed him with the fat contract.

You get what you bargain for.

Cool. Seau picked up our system surprisingly well last year. I am looking for him to play all out in what could be his last season. He must have known how close we were to the Superbowl last year and then both him and Harrison went down. That's gotta bother a competitive guy like that. I know he wants the ring. There are gonna be some hungry guys on this team - Seau, Moss, AD, to name just a few. That only helps our chances.

could be? After he gets his ring, he is done. And in my opinion, so will Bruschi, Brown and Harrison as well come March. Which is why so many picks were commuted to next year. When 6-7 players might not be back.

It is a decent depth signing. It gives the organization a bit less worry should any one of the top five go down we can still put four good LBs on the field. Still hope that one of the young guys surprises us and turns out to be more then a special teams guy.

Training camp should be a lot of fun, the battles for the last 8 spots should be a blast.

I thought Reiss' take on this was perfect. He's a very valuable addition, but has to be used carefully in spots where he can support Brewski or let Vrabel move outside. Every down or even every other down and he'll be done by Halloween.

That said, let's get one of the greatest LB's of his generation the Ring that he deserves and that will annoy the Chargers sooooooo much.

The interesting thing here is just how many people said that Seau was 1.) too old and 2.) not suited to the Patriots 2 gap system... i.e. that he wasn't so much a zone run stuffer, better suited to move around more etc..

In actuality he proved that he WAS just as well suited to the Patriots system - and his ability to move (albeit perhaps a bit slower than in his prime) does give the Pats one of the more important elements to their new defensive lineup - versatility.

While some players are better suited to run defense or pass defense and different schemes, bringing AD in was all about giving BB major flexibility in different defensive schemes

In other words, opposing teams expect the unexpected from the Patriots D at all times... Seau's signing just gave a significant supplement to the flexibility we are developing.

Another role player LB from training camp cuts could certainly be in the future.

it is obvious that belicheck favors smarts, intelligece, experiece, over youth and athletism in his scheme

Being able to use him more sparingly should help his longevity that's for sure, and he adds much-needed depth at that position. He'll definitely help Lau develop which will prove to be invaluable down the stretch.
Seau's got an incredible pedigree and even last year he was still rolling. Many of these guys will likely be gone in 08,especially if they get the ring. We need their experience and leadership now, while we can still take advantage of it.
Maybe at one time he may not have been a perfect fit here, but the desire to win and the expressed appreciation of everything he has to offer can sometimes make a player want to fit.

personally i'm happy that Seau is back with us and i expected it honestly

i think he can still be an effective ILB for 1 more season

last year he playied well before get injured

i really hope he can play significant yime this year too and rotate will all the others

i would love the Pats winning a ring also for him

I think we all expected this sighning, very good sighning for depth.

Junior Seau is NOT depth. He is an integral component in the ILB rotation. If Vrabel is also inside, all three are likely to be much healthier and effective for the post-season.

=================================
Junior was the Pats best LB last year up till he got hurt. Maybe he starts this year, good for him. I just feel at his age BB probaly looks at him as depth rather then a lock as a starter for a full 16 game season, jmo.
