this is amazing news

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watching Seau being escorted off the field that night, still acting like a warrior even though his arm had been turned to jelly, it really made me hop that it would not be the last time he would play in a Patriot's uniform.

He far exceeded anyone's expectations, and even at his advanced age he showed why he is a first ballot Hall of Famer. He is such a fiery guy and a good player, it is good to have him back.

Well said zippo!!!!:rocker:

With what will almost certainly be a higher scoring offense and a front-running defense, perhaps Junior will be used more sparingly and mainly on run downs, thus conserving him for an entire season and full playoff run.

I hate this move!! Old bones break easily, what more needs to be said. I'd rather have a younger guy. But if this guy helps us and gets himself a ring, I'll be absolutely thrilled for him. Good luck to the guy who wears Willie's number!! :D

Given the LB situation, this is a tremendous move.

I think the best starting line-up is:
Thomas - Bruschi - Seau - Vrabel

Thomas and Vrabel are the best OLB's against the run.
Bruschi and Seau are the best inside run-stuffers.
This makes the most sense for 'starting' downs - first series of a game.

In any passing situation, Seau should be subbed out for Colvin:
Thomas - Vrabel - Bruschi - Colvin

The sub package can be something like:
Woods - Alexander - Vrabel - Colvin

That gives the top four playmakers, Thomas, Bruschi, Vrabel, and Colvin a number of rotations. It might over-use Vrabel in several positions, but the team has four ILB's it can rotate in and out.

Seau proved a terrific inside run-stuffer in the Pats system, racking up 15 tackles in the Jets game. He was also very good in coverage over the TE.

This provides one more versatile LB, a guy who can tackle, rush the passer, and cover the receivers - tight end or RB. Thomas, Vrabel, Bruschi and Seau can all line up inside or outside, and are almost equally effective from either spot. Bruschi and Vrabel can both line up over the nose in passing downs; presumably Thomas can as well given his size, strength, and athleticism.

I really think this is a big deal, just behind franchising Samuel and acquiring Thomas for the defense.

As noted, it does nothing to solve the long-term issue, and acts to ****** the development of young players like Alexander who would otherwise get more snaps. However, given that the Patriots really have no high-potential young players, it's not that big a deal.

The only other problem for the Pats is game-day actives. Historically they fund special teams out of the LB corps, and they once again have a bunch of older linebackers. This squeezes them on game-day actives to fill special teams. They just don't have many young guys who can learn the system, play a few series, and focus on special teams.

It was Seau's number first. Seau had 55 at USC, then Willie came after him.

Nah, Vrabel's not starting on the outside over Colvin. Oh, and Thomas is even more versatile than Vrabel, so he'll be rotating from OLB to ILB, and might even start some games at ILB. One more thing, Seau's likely not going to see time at OLB, and will mainly just be a run stuffing ILB.

Why bother to guess where each player is going to go? Opposing offenses have no clue, why would you think you would be able to figure it out... Only BB knows...

this offseason has been great, think they have adressed every need as good as they possibly could, lets get to training camp!!

Agreed. My only wish is that they got a little younger at LB via the draft, but with this group, we've got another couple of years.

Bruschi, Thomas, Colvin, Vrabel, Seau @ LB? Spice it up a little with Alexander, Woods & Izzo?

What more could you ask for?

Thanks again, Belioli!

Willie bolted for money is learning what all other ex-Pats who bolted for money have learned...

The money may be greener, buyt the grass isn't, on the other side...

Sit home and count your money all through January, Willie...

Invite Ty Law, Lawyer Milloy, Damien Woody and Chad Eaton over, as well. you can all sit back and watch the Pats as they march to thier 4th title in seven years!

Are you serious?? I thought that our defense against the run last year was remarkably stout when he was on the field. So, what's wrong in bringing him in again and hope that he plays a good % if not all the games??

'old bones'. don't let Harrison hear that. Or, wait, maybe that is a good motivation for him and Seau.

nice,
Seau is a legend and it is nice to have him back in uni. I thought he fit in realy well last year and should build on that this and with a lightened role hopefully he stays healthy(not that the break wasnt freak). he is a piece of the puzzle that was needed, he will allow vrabel and thomas to stay flexible and neither will have to man the middle full time.
and the greatest offseason in Pats history(transaction wise) continues...whats next Troy for sure and who knows what else, at this point nothing would suprise me....stay tuned and remember with each transaction the season inches closer.
see ya and welcome back JR

Willie was cut. I'm sure he's regretting not being on the Pats, but it was out of his control.

He does a very good "Lights Out" dance.

I would die a happy death seeing Seau do the lights out death.....

Is it just me or is san diego creeping up to Jets hatred levels??

My ladder of team hatred has always been

1.Colts
2.Jets
3.Ravens
4.Broncos

but the super chokers are definately getting up there

Willie and many of them have their rings. What's so wrong about "allowing" them to go make some more money before they have to call it a career?

I am thrilled to welcome Junior back. I believe this move has been in the plans since the end of last season, a verbal agreement between Junior and the team. Otherwise why pass on a guy like David Harris?

Just wondering if this means the Pats are still talking/looking at Ed Hartwell? Or did he officially sign with Cincinnati?

Yes, great news. Grandpa Seau ought to give you about 10 games and an excuse to blame injuries.

Maybe Merriman can give him the name of his trainer, so Junior can get some "supplements" to help him? Oops, the choking Chargers still couldn't win, even with a cheater. Guess that won't do any good. Don't worry though. You're still the regular season champs.
