There are many posters here that refuse to face the reality that time waits for no man; and Tom Brady's years are dwindling down to a precious few.
These fans want Mallett traded, and then say he won't bring much at all.
Ryan Mallett is in his second Training Camp and going into his third season, having no rookie preseason due to the CBA lockout. From the very limited exposure that I have seen, he has the rare athletic gifts needed to be an excellent starter in the NFL. The criticism has been his immaturity, but I don't see it.
He was wise enough to leave Michigan when Lloyd Carr retired, and the West Virginia wonder came in, and wanted to run the fashionable innovation of the day, the Wildcat/Single Wing. He was sagacious enough to practice his future trade in the SEC, under a Coach who used a Pro-style Offense.
He is a Coach's son, and immersed in watching film since he was a teen, like BB. Belichick evaluated him in a several hour interview, and declared him very football wise; and then drafted him in the early third, when he fell within reach. BB didn't believe the rumors.
Belichick made him #2 in his second season, cutting able backup Bryan Hoyer, supposedly dangerous for a SuperBowl competitor. He has ignored all attempts to trade for Mallett.
I am anxious to see what Mallett can do this preseason, even though it may be premature. As it wasn't until Casell's fourth preseason that BB felt his grooming complete, and made him endure the Trials of Job, to test POISE.
I don't know if Mallett can be the Successor, or even if he would wait. But BB is building a very strong SuperBowl contender for the next 4-5 years. It will be much stronger Team than the last four contenders, one of which actually made it there, during the total tear down and rebuild, while still winning.
But BB would be foolish not to give him a try, and BB is no fool. Mallett is under contract for two full years, and who knows how Tom will look then? This year's college QB crop was barren. Next year's crop has some interesting, but undersized QB possibilities. I have no idea what the 2015 QB crop will be like.
Meanwhile the TC reports indicate Ryan is having a good camp, making all the throws, short as well as deep, and more important showing Poise and understanding and touch.
