From a friend who has a relative that is a private trainer for several Patriots. The guy does not train Tom Brady but he would seem to be a credible source.

I was never able to get any specifics but my friend told me this prior to the SB so if true Tom was playing on a bum ankle and had a Sports Hernia.

There's a few people around here who are going to jump all over you for this - but anyone could tell the past two games were more than "bad games" (whether this rumor is correct or not, SOMETHING was up).

    http://orthopedics.about.com/od/sportsinjuries/a/hernia.htm

"A sports hernia occurs when there is a weakening of the muscles or tendons of the lower abdominal wall. This part of the abdomen is the same region where an inguinal hernia occurs, called the inguinal canal. When an inguinal hernia occurs there is sufficient weakening of the abdominal wall to allow a pouch, the hernia, to be felt. In the case of a sports hernia, the problem is due to a weakening in the same abdominal wall muscles, but there is no palpable hernia."

Sports hernia, high ankle sprain, shoulder injury. How does the guy even make it out of bed, what a warrior. I thought I heard that he was hit by a bus before the game, and still wanted to play.

I always thought the injury was worse than we knew but wow if this is true.... I knew how tough he was but damn... not one complaint from him, not even a grimace during the game especially when he was getting completely pounded by the giants dlineman. He's amazing.

When Brady threw that first half ball WAY high and wide to an open Moss in perfect conditions and under no real pressure, I knew he was really hurt. He couldn't follow through on that throw at all. I thought it was the ankle, but it could have been this other injury as well.

He was a shadow of himself in that game. Even when he had time, his throws were not right. Even his HS coach and advisor came out and said that the other day.

I would love to see the Giants again in next year's SB.

When I hear it from the Patriots or another credible source, I'll believe it.

I'm not saying I think it's bogus, I think anyone who watches Brady play regularly realized he was not himself in the SB.

Still, unsubstantiated rumors are just that.

Nor in the SD - even aside from the INT, a huge amount of his passes required great catches which is unusual.

That is what Hobbs has been dealing with for the last six weeks, and he's reportedly going to have surgery for his in the off season. Brady had one at the end of the 2005 season, and they do predispose you to future such injury. I believe there are degrees of injury and playing through them is simply a matter of managing the pain. Some people can, others like McNabb cannot. This kind of injury would make it doubly hard to scramble or roll out and throw on the fly because twisting motions exacerbate it. Maybe this is another hint that our work on upgrading the Oline is not quite finished..

The injury rumor from the practice week for SD was that he hurt the ankle then. He said that was not the case and he in fact hurt it on the sack in the SD game in the 3rd quarter.

I am glad you brought up his previous sports hernia because The same source that informed of this one had informed me of that one and since he was right back than I believe him now.
