So Chris Gasper tweeted tonight that with all the fits that Rob Ryan has given the Pats, doesnt belichick have to consider bringing him in? I personally love the idea, but i feel like coach is too proud to bring in help. Thoughts?? Imagine how much more hype Pats/Jets would get.

    Disable Jersey

Why would the Cowboys let him make such a lateral move?

The main credibility to this thought is that Rob has worked under BB before and while Jason Garrett might turn out to be a great coach, he certainly doesn't have the resume of turning coordinators into head coaches that BB does. I imagine that is Rob's ultimate aspiration.

Personally, I would love to see us bring in a solid DC to help out BB. Our best defenses have been when Bill was aided by Romeo or Dom Capers.

The Pats-Jets games aren't hyped enough already?

    But seriously, I'd take him.

How about Rex as DC? I have put money on the guy getting fired pretty soon.

Wouldn't work. Rob Ryan seems to run the defense in Dallas and is accustomed to that. I think BB likes to run the defense his own way. I doubt Rob would be able to adjust to that. In short, even if he were to be in New England, our defense would look like our defense rather than the Cowboys defense.

What we really need to get is a proper defensive backs coach, and probably a wide receivers coach for that matter.

This. The only way we'll see Belichick and Rob Ryan together again before Rob's contract runs out is if Belichick moves to a front office role and Rob becomes the head coach.

Why don't the Pats hire their long lost brother Dick to come in and do catering? At least we'll get to hear quips from Rex like, "Now that Pats have Dick they'll be eating better those bastids!"

Honestly, I don't want that nut running up and down the sidelines screaming at officials acting like a jerk. No thanks.

Did you see his antics on the sideline? No way that happens on a BB team, don't care how talented of an DC he is.

BTW, the Pats defense looked pretty good themselves, that 3 and out to give Tom & co. one last chance may be the turning point to build a Super Bowl caliber defense.

Ihedigbo appears to have gone a long way to solving some of the problems of Safety (for the short term at least). There's still some big question marks at linebacker outside of Jerod Mayo, and well he's returning from injury.

The Defense appears to be getting better each week, which is pleasing.

I actually mentioned this last week when talking about Ryan and certain people on here thought I was committing sacrilege and over-stating Ryan's success as a DC since he left the Pats.

As Deus mentions, Ryan would have to get fired from the Cowboys or not sign a new contract. Neither of which is likely to happen anytime soon.

As for Belichick being too proud, I have a suggestion for you. Go and read Patriots Reign. Go and read Education of a Coach. Go and watch the NFL Films episodes on Belichick. If there is one thing that Belichick can do is admit when he needs help.

I honestly believe it's more likely that Pepper Johnson gets the DC position (he's already wearing the headset) than it would be for BB to bring in someone from the outside next season.

The Browns fired Ryan when they fired Mangini. Why would the Cowboys fire Garrett in his first season??

Belichick doesn't believe in paying his coordinators very much. Guys that have had success or a long career won't come here. Really the only negative thing Charlie Weis said about BB in his book was how little they paid and it was because of BB--not ownership.

The last thing Rob Ryan wants is to toil as DC in BB's shadow. He wants to be a head coach like his brother. Hell, he already acts like one on the sideline; why Garrett lets him carry on like that is anybody's guess.

amazing post.[..short...succinct...DEFINITELY possible....I mean it makes such perfect sense....Wrecks was drawn to the AFC East because of his huge ego and jealousy of Belichick...he took a team that was drowning with one nostril above water and turned them into a defense heavy, loosey goosey, us-against -the -world team of characters.

His twin brother wants everything his green clad brother has and wants to show the world HE is the better pantload coach of the two...where better than Miami, post the unbelievably ridiculous tenure of Tony "Excitable Fat Thug Guy" Sparano....?

Can you imagine the media frenzy around here if this ever occurred? In fact, why WOULDN'T this be not only the next step for Rob Ryan, but the BEST step?

Football writers would garner enough material from one season of this to last a decade.

One odd thing about this thread is that the Cowboys are giving up MORE points per game than the Patriots.

As well as Rob has schemed against the Pats over the years, he hasn't done nearly as well with the rest of the league.

    No Jersey Selected

Thing is, IIRC, teams do not have to allow their staff to talk to anyone else unless they are being sought for a position higher than the one they are currently under contract for.

Thus, until his contract is over with Dallas, Jerry Jones can deny the Patriots the right to even contact him unless it's for a head coaching job, or front office position.

Not to mention, the Dolphins owner is a media whore (him selling percentage of his team to celebrities just to get publicity), and the amount of buzz (negative and positive) his team would get if he hired Rob would go through the roof.

No chance he gets fired. They'll cut the offending players.

Anyway, he gets a new HC job PDQ in the unlikely event he's fired.

I haven't gone over the stats or anything but are you sure it's the Cowboys defense giving up the points or are there a bunch of them coming from turnovers?

I think Gasper is the first globe writer i just won't read atall, even justto get pissed off. He adds no football knowledge at all IMO. Pretty much Perez Hilton of the sports page.

As far as our abysmal defensive coaching, going 14-2 while turning the entire defense over except Wilfork obviously shows tremendous lack of coaching on the D.

Could it be we're still looking for the right blend of mature personnel after two whole years?

It's great that ratgini and ryan can spend the whole season studying us so they can have their mid season Super Bowl amidst their reign of meh.

Could it possibly be that BB and the stable of assistants he's trained might be as good coaching defense as anyone, given the right team growing together in their prime? We're still assembling parts IMO.

Nothing against Ryan, he's a good coach, but what would he add unless he wants to bring along DeMarcus Ware and some others.

Aikman had to laugh at our 14-2 "rebuilding" year, Ryan ever do that?

    They're 2-3, by the way.

The amount of air time Rob Ryan gets is ridiculous. I kinda feel bad for Jason Garrett, the media seem to have somehow turned the Cowboys into "Rob Ryans Cowboys"....
