Report: Pats interested in Dumervil

Apparently Dumervil has hired Condon so they should really focus on Freeney and Abraham because Elvis won't be coming to Foxboro.

Brandon Lloyd did.

Next week's post will be "Dumervil spurns Patriot Offer", a welker and jennings redux.

Not enough cap space? At $16.4 mil under the cap?

Well, if that's not enough room; than no one can sign him except tampa, phi, jax, cle, cin. Those are the only teams who are $20+ in cap space.

Oh, and he already agreed to $8/per w/ denver; that's not too much at all.

There's a ways to go with the 2013 cap money: $4 million +/- for rookies, $2 million flexibility when camp comes around, Vollmer, Edelman, and maybe Sanders. I think another wideout is needed, even if it is an older less expensive guy. Fitting Dumervil in there at $6 - $7 million becomes a challenge.

Freeney also a Condon guy sadly.

Lloyd was hell bent on rejoining McDaniels and I doubt Dumervil is looking at it the same way.

First of all, word is Dumervil is represented by both Condon and one of his partner. The Pats have done business with CAA with other agents. If Condon doesn't want to do business with the Pats, he doesn't have to. He said as much that he isn't the only agent in his office if the Pats had problems dealing with him.

Second, it has been a decade since Watson fired Condon to sign with the Pats and four years since Condon said he wouldn't do business with the Pats. Things change over time. Freeney, who is represented by Condon, was in here on Friday.

Third, the market has changed this year. Dumervil isn't going to get a a contract that offers him eight figures a year with a $15-20 million signing bonus. In this market, he is looking at an $8 million a year (possibly less) and he is going to need as many teams bidding for him as possible. Condon can't afford to keep the Pats' out of negotiations unless the Pats are going to lowball and even then keeping them in the mix might make another team get scared and make a big offer.

...and suddenly everyone stopped caring about clogging passing lanes. Undersized ends are great because they can get under tackles but you better damn well have backers who can run if you're gonna trot out a guy who is under 6' tall.

Freeney is a Condon guy and he came to visit on Friday. People need to get over the Condon stuff. It has been a decade now since the Watson incident. Both sides have probably hhave calmed down about that by now.
