    1) Underthrew Moss for a TD, causing him to have to slow up - sure TD failed.
    2) Completely overthrew, hell not even in the same general area of a Moss for a sure TD.
    3) Fails to realize Ben Watson is wide open in the endzone on 4th and Goal.
    4) Overthrowing Welker resulting in a disgusting pick.
    5) Completely overthrew, hell once again not even in the same general area a wide open Ben Watson in the end zone to end the game.

I've generally been fairly supportive of Cassel, and I hope he continues to start, but this loss is on his shoulders. He didn't play well in the Miami game, but he was functional and the D was primarily to blame for that loss.

This game, however, falls on his lap. He played very, very poorly. The Chargers knocked on the door throughout the whole first half but the game was within reach for most of it. He underthrew Randy Moss numerous times, took bad sacks, missed open recievers in the end zone, was too quick to scramble, and didn't get rid of the ball quickly enough. You can't play a ball control offense going three and out and throwing for fifty yards in a half against one of the worst pass defense teams in the league. This was a bad, bad day for him, by far his worst game since becoming a starter.

Yesterday I felt he was capable of taking the team to the playoffs, now I'm not so sure. Part of the reason the Chargers scored so often was because the patriots couldn't stay on the field. And that end zone debacle was an important moment, the coaches said we trust you, and he failed miserably. Threw at Morris' feet on one down and then missed a wide open Watson in the next down, when it didn't even look like he was under that much pressure.

Unless he bounces back in a big way next week, I think the Matt Cassel experiment is going to result in an 8-8 team (if we're lucky) and a mid round draft pick.

I'll use one acronym to describe the whole team:

    "wtflol"

If I want to actually use a phrase:

    "giant pile of suck"

I hope it doesnt even get to that point with that kid. I'm glad for him that he has a degree, because I'm willing to bet that I have a better shot at playing in the nfl next season than he does.

Started off okay than it went to s***! He throws too many passes directly at the D-lineman for them to knock down. He needs to get more air under his throws.

Bad game by Cassel. His sub-mediocre performance is depressing although no shock, but it worries me far less than does the lack of pass rush (no hurries, no sacks), bad CB play, an OL that gets blown up right thru the middle, and other issues.

As casual fantasy football fans, you can focus on the backup QB, but the product on the field is the team, including coaches.

His awareness is no better than it was in week 1. O'Connell showed better awareness and command.

It looks as though when he drops back he doesn't know what the routes are going to be. Or that there is only 1 option.

Patients is wearing a little tin at the lack of progression.

Also what is with McDaniels. Surely there are more than 5 plays in the playbook.

I wonder if when hes in the pocket, holding on to the ball waaaay more than 3 seconds and patting it, is he saying to the ball "good ball, nice ball, I love you ball."

Throw the friggin' thing already. You called a play to throw to a certain somebody, throw it.

Had Cassel been able to hit a WIDE OPEN Moss for the TD at the start of the second half, it's a 17-10 game.

Instead, he fails to do so. Fails to see a wide open Watson in the endzone on 4th and goal and the Chargers proceed to take the momentum Cassel handed to them and blow us out.

    #24 Jersey

I voted BAD although TERRIBLE wasn't far off. He flashes mediocrity at times. But he missed Moss all over the place and wasn't particularly good with the others. It won't be long until it's time to play O'Connell as Cassel will be gone next year we might as well get O'Connell some experience.

    Rate as what?

As a guy making his fifth NFL start with no running game to fall back on, a porous O line and a D that couldn't stop anything downfield putting him behind the eight ball all night? Average or so.

In comparison to a seasoned NFL starter or in comparison to HOF-bound Tom Brady? Not so good, but he's neither.

I don't know whether he's going to get the job done this season (or at all), but it's too early to close the book on him. I'm actually dreading his return to Foxboro when the idiots will boo him off the field after the first bad series or pass.

Nope, Sage was at least able to put himself in the position to choke away a good game.

Cassel was horrible from start to finish.

A starting quarterback in the National Football League.

I'm hoping that the caterers serve an especially exquisite quiche with the chablis that day and the noveau fans will be distracted by a Red Sox broadcast

Can't help but be reminded of how Bledsoe looked like in the pocket, nervous, holding on to the ball too long, had the jimmy legs going.
    Much like what Cassel does.

    #18 Jersey

I have never posted anything negative about Cassel before today, but I thought he was just awful. The only one on O who looked like he was playing with any heart or fire was Morris.

I voted bad. But he could play average to well and if the defense can't stop the passing game then it won't matter anyway.

The pass to Moss was off but Moss did turn the wrong way. If the ball was supposed to go to the outside left, then Moss screwed up too. But it's possible the ball was supposed to go down the center. On the INT, Welker ran into Dave Thomas which might have screwed up the timing, but I'm not sure that it mattered.

I was going to vote for G: Pure Crap.

Cassel's mom apperantly doesn't post here, he doesn't have a #1 vote yet.

Bad game by Cassel. But why is the only player you are questioning Cassel? Koppen's game was even worse, which affected both the passing and running game, and the defense gave up over 400 yards 30 points. I'd be all over Cassel a lot more if the score was 13-10 or 17-10; the entire team - not just Cassel - had a bad game.

Cassel was bad tonight, but to think another QB would have won this game for the Pats is crazy. The Pats lost the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball by a wide margin and the secondary was toasted. The Pats would have been better off replacing Koppen tonight than Cassel.

Cassel was part of the problem, but not the only problem. Any QB short of the caliber of Brady or Manning would have lost almost as big tonight. Unless Cassel played defense and stole Deltha O'Neal's jersey, Cassel played no part in the complete and utter breakdown by the defense. The Pats defense gave up 404 yards and 30 points and never got even close to Rivers all night.

People need to stop blaming Cassel for all the problems of this team. The problems with this team right now goes much farther than the QB. If we replace Cassel tomorrow with any of the players all the haters sugguest whether it is O'Connell or Garcia or someone else, it isn't going to correct the problems with the o-line and the defense. And if those aren't correct, no QB short of Brady or Manning is going to get this team over .500.

You have to be kidding me.

Drew Brees wins this game by two scores with the way the Chargers DBs were playing.

LOL! I didn't know Brees was a two way player. Can he play CB? I didn't know that.

Drew Brees comes here and the Pats lose more respectably, but lose none the less. Maybe 30-20.
