While it will never compare to the QB class of 1983, the QB class of 2005 is remarkable. There were 14 QBs selected, and most have logged some playing time, and I think 10 of them have started games in the NFL. That's amazing.

What's more, 12 QBs were selected ahead of Matt Cassel, and none have proven to be outstanding QBs. The best of the lot is Aaron Rogers, and he isn't exactly wowing anyone in Green Bay.

In fact, if I could pick any QB drafted in 2005 today, any QB I wanted to lead the Pats down the stretch run, I would take Cassel.

Admittedly I'm baised, having had a mancrush on Cassel since his first day at camp, but I really liked Rogers and thought the Niners should have taken him.

So it is a tough call for me, but I think the Pats have a better chance at winning it all with Cassel than with any of the other members of the 2005 QB draft class.

    1 Alex Smith
    24 Aaron Rodgers
    25 Jason Campbell
    67 Charlie Frye
    69 Andrew Walter
    85 David Greene
    106 Kyle Orton
    121 Stefan LeFors
    145 Dan Orlovsky
    152 Adrian McPherson
    213 Derek Anderson
    229 James Kilian
    230 Matt Cassel
    250 Ryan Fitzpatrick

1 Alex Smith = I never liked him...Matt Leinart was an Idiot for not coming out that year cost himself Millions and now a back-up in Arizona. I am sure Alex Smith say to himself everyday than you Matt Leinart.

24 Aaron Rodgers = He was one of my favorites from Cal, the jury is still out.

25 Jason Campbell = I thought he was the best a heck of a player at Auburn.

    67 Charlie Frye

    69 Andrew Walter

    85 David Greene

106 Kyle Orton = I thought he could develop into something given time and he has.

    121 Stefan LeFors

145 Dan Orlovsky = I have hope for this Connecticut kid.

    152 Adrian McPherson

213 Derek Anderson = Even after last year i didn't trust him he suck's vs good Defenses.

    229 James Kilian

230 Matt Cassel = What a story knowing that he didn't even start a Game in College because of the circumstances. But he's sure looking like a Good one and he can make all the throws.

    250 Ryan Fitzpatrick

Derek Anderson may be a good QB in a poor system. I feel bad for the guy.

Cassel and Rodgers are both good QB's, but Rodgers spent training camp and the off-season planning to be the starter.

Cassel heard a scream and put his helmet on and his been finding his way since. That tells me a whole lot about our John Doe QB.

And it tells you a whole lot about our quarterback coach. Who is that guy again?

63% completion %, on pace for just under 3800 yds, 13/5 TD/INT, while leading his team to 26 PPG so far despite no running game.

Guess that really depends on your idea of wowing. I think most long time NFL observers are likely very impressed by a guy starting for the first time with these numbers.

Clearly the Packers record isn't what they hoped but that has much more to do with being 21st in defense and 28th against the run.

I was really high on Andrew Walter that year. Hopefully he can escape the black hole of suck and get some kind of return on his potential.

That is not a good quarterback class, it just means the league-play from QB's was so bad that they gave lots of random guys a shot.

Not one of those players is an all star, they're all most below average scrubs. Rogers is the best of the bunch, I would put Cassel second.

I don't think we are giving enough credit to Jason Campbell, who is a solid NFL starter.

I think that some of those quarterbacks are better than Cassel. And, yes, at this point, I would rather have Cassel for the rest of the season. However, if you ask which I would think would be after three years in the patriot's system working under Brady, I don't think the answer would be Cassel.

Campbell led his teams to two tough road wins over NFC East opponents this season

    Pretty good QB IMO

Turning into a solid journeyman QB, but I wouldn't trade him straight up for Cassel. The only QB of the 2005 class I would consider trading is for Rogers.

Someone also made the point that some of the others could have been even better than Cassel had they spent three years in our system under BB and Brady. No way of tellling, alas. But I always thought that Ramsey would have been a great QB if he hadn't been ruined by Spurrier.

JM, and I'm with you 100%. I pray that the Pats make JM our QB coach again, and go out and get a decent OC.

I'd take Rodgers or Campbell over Cassel, but, that said, I do like Cassel a lot and think he's very good for what he is- a backup QB who has been pressed into starting duty.

Campbell is having a monster season in the west coast offense and would fit with what we are running with Cassel at the moment.
